My little brother was playing a game on our wii and he turned it off when he was done as usual, but the next morning when he went to go play it the wii was completely off, even the little red power button was off, but everything was plugged in. Is there some way we can fix it ourselves or would we have to take it back to the store?

if the hand on the wii does not come up then turn the wii off then turn it back on it will say at the bottom of the screen press the a button DO NOT DO IT! where it says reset on the wii there will be a lid there open it then there will be a red button that says sync press it after u have done it where u put the batteries in the wii remote open it then press that little red circle button IT WILL HAVE TO BE DONE FAST BUT NOT TO FAST OK. Most common fix i've done for this issue is to take apart the wii and manually move the laser up and down the bars the laser slides on. If this doesn't work,a replacement drive is usually ~40-50$usd . If you find yourself not able to either of these, find a local electronic repair person or call nintendo and see if maybe they have a list of qualified repair companies local to you.
Call nintendo, if there is something in the USB port in the back of the system then take it out, it could cause freezing with out disc. If all of your disc are not playing ( Unable to read disc please refer to the wii operation manual ) its a problem with the disc drive in the system, set up a repair.
I just had the same problem as everyone else. I had a brief power loss and our new Wii system's power would no longer work. To fix the problem, I unplugged everything from our Wii and unplugged the power cord from the outlet. I let the system set for 10 minutes and re-plugged the power only. That did the trick. Then I was able to plug everything back up and we are now back to playing.
Supposedly, doing the steps above resets the Wii according to the Nintendo online trouble shooting guide.
