Re: cd/dvd

Generally, these can be gotten from the manufacturer website. However, Toshiba says that their drivers are generic. Try this: Go to My Computer in your main menu. Find and right click on the drive. Click on properties. Click on hardware. Pick your drive out and double click on it. Follow prompts to update the driver via the net. Should fix it. If you still have a problem: call Toshiba:

Re: cd/dvd

What brand/model of computer do you have? You can either go to the manufacturers website for driver downloads and support, or you can also try going to the windows update website. You'll want to do the Custom update (not the express). After it searches for your updates, the left hand column will show if any available Hardware Updates were found.

My dell latitude d531 laoptop could not recognise my dvd/cd drive. It is not shown on My computer

It may be possible that the connection got somehow loose.
so, try to remove it and then refit it again.
it is very simple to remove the DVD drive and refit it. (it's just a matter of removing one or two screws.)

you can see the Manual that came with it to learn how to remove and refit it.

Please keep in mind that it may Void your warranty, so read the manual before attempting it.

I lost my driver cd

You can download all the drivers from the following link:

It is always best to download the drivers and burn them all on a DVD for future use - in case a driver goes corrupt or you have to reinstall Windows.

Somehow managed to uninstall the DVD driver on my computer and Dell site doesn't seem to contain any suitable drivers. Model is an inspiron 6400

Have you lost the capability to play DVDs? If so, it's not a driver issue but a program issue. Your machine probably came with Cyberlink's Powerdvd program but, if you don't have it, you can download VLC media player for free. Not as snazzy but it will let you watch a movie.

CD/DVD player doesn't read disc

Unless it's a hardware problem, (physically damaged, replace drive), then it sounds like a driver issue. Over time drivers (the software that runs the hardware) can be corrupted, get into a compatability conflict with new programs, or lost by the system. You obviously can't reinstall the drivers from your recovery discs, but you can (usually) download them from your manufacturer's website.

In your Start menu's search, type Device Manager. Open DM and expand the + next to DVD/CD-ROM drives.

If your drive is not listed in there, then it's not installed, download it's software from your manufacturer's website.

If your drive is listed but has a 9b861c0.gif next to it, then there's a driver problem. Double click the drive and note what it says under "Device Status" on the General tab. Go to the Driver tab and click "Update Driver..." Choose "Search automatically for updated driver software" and Windows will search both your computer and the internet for the proper drivers for your device.

Even if your drive is listed and it's status is "device is working properly" you may still need to reinstall the drivers. Often there can be a driver conflict that your computer is not aware of to report back. In any case, before replacing the drive you'll definately want to try fixing the drivers.

Hope this helps

CD player doesn't work, but DVD does

This is a common problem with the combo drives. There are two sepperate reader boards for CD and DVD. When one fails the other will still read. The drive will need to be replaced.

DVD became a CD driver???

Early in the Disk burning process (at least with some of the older versions of Nero), you get to select which device to use as your writer.

Some devices get two entries on this list - one as a CD burner and one as a DVD burner (with the default being whichever you used last).

See if you can select the "DVD burner "instance of your device.

Computer is not recognizing my cd/dvd drive

Umm..Try install all the drivers of your system. the CD was enclosed in your system. if ever the cd is not work you should download the driver of your system.

or After installing a new windows do not restart your system until you finish all the driver installation and also the driver of your CD/DVD.

I 100% pinpoint that the your CD/DVD needs a driver. so install and you'll be fine.
