Acer recovery disc wont work

Hello, any help would really be appreciated. I have a 14 month old acer 5100 that will not boot up. When I try to boot up I get to the windows logo and it freezes. I have tried alt/f10 to use the recovery discs and when it says for me to wait I ended up waiting 3 hours and nothing happenned. I have also tried to boot it up using all of the options they offer and nothing happens.I took it to a shop ( I don't believe they knew more than I did) and they said they thought something was wrong with my motherboard or maybe the processor. The only thing different about anything that happenned was I had installed a nexstar digital keyring picture thingy the night before.

"u cant use recovery disk u need orginal vista dvd or xp cd boot into that then formatt ect"

Isn't XP already on the disc? I didn't get any software when I bought it. The first time I booted up the computer I was prompted to make the recovery discs, 7 in all, and I assumed the operating system was being burned on the disc as well.

"could go in safe mode f8 remove whatever u instaled before it crashed"

If I could boot up in safe mode or any other route I could do that, but it doesn't boot up in any fashion.

Acer Aspire 5100 will not boot from ****

The best way to handle this is to completely reformat the drive again, to rid win 7 and the bad XP, and to then re-install XP from the DVD all anew. Any other way is just going to cause hassles trust me.

is the hd formatted?
when the computer is booting, hit the f12 key. this gets you to the bootup sequence windows. highlight the cd/dvd drive as first startup. reboot w/the recovery disk in the drive. this should allow you to format the hd and then install th files on the recovery disk.

Hi sboon4...did I lose you on chat? I have a couple more things to try....

inthecellar says:
I'm not sure if you're still connected but I have a couple more things to try I'll type it out.

inthecellar says:
If you can get back to a command prompt again, you can try the following:

inthecellar says:
C:\windows\winsxs\pending.xml C:\windows\winsxs\pending.old.xml
C:\windows\winsxs\cleanup.xml -> C:\windows\winsxs\cleanup.old.xml

inthecellar says:
You want to rename the pending.xml to old and cleanup.xml to old.

inthecellar says:
if that doesn't work then try going into the bios of the Acer to choose recovery (which may erase all data) by hitting Alt-F10 while it boots up.

inthecellar says:
my email is if you need more assistance...I'll keep it connected.

Do a recovery from boot up. Press F12 after you power up the unit. Should take you to a boot list. or read your manual and it will tell u what to press to get to recovery. Do a full system recovery.

Ntldr missing

You need to do full system recovery to boot up your pc again. NTLDR is a hidden file that is needed to boot windows. Your laptop should come with a recovery disc to re install Windows.
Hope this helps.

Is this computer a goner?

At a glance it looks like a system problem, but hardware cause cannot be completely excluded.
To know it you will need to install windows fom xp disk, as your recovery disk may be cause for the problem. You can try downloading windows setup from torrent, only for testing purposes.Just be aware that some version may have viruses, then have a good antivirus active and always scan what you download before using it.

To use torrent easily you may need to download two programs:

the searcher:

the torrent downloader:

install both of them then put first 'windows xp' in the search software. If you find and download setup disk for the same system indicated in the licence sticker at the back of your computer (eg. windows xp home, windows media edition, windows vista home etc...) then you may be able to install the system with a valid licence, in this case I suggest to finish finding and installing the drivers and keeping the installed system.
