Question about Refrigerators

Whirpool refrigerator runs too long

Our Kenmore Coldspot refrigerator is made by Whirlpool. It was made in 1999. The unit seals seem fine, no air leaking, but the unit runs between 30-40 % of the time. I hear it running for long periods in the middle of the night.
It performs properly except for the noise and high energy usage.
Any suggestions?

My Kenmore 2001 freezer on top of fridge starts every five minutes and runs for about fifteen minutes. The motor seems louder also. I don't have much food in either half. This all started about six weeks ago.

    Thank you for your suggestions.

First thing is to check the condenser coil( outside coil) and see if dirt has accumulated on it. if so clean it off. The condenser coil should be located under the fridge, or behind the fridge. If you do clean it, and its still running a lot, then its possible that the unit is low on refrigerant. If that's the case you will have to call a service tech to look at it

Can you hear a small fan blowing air inside the refrigerator? It sounds like the evaporator fan has gone out and it is not transferring the air from the freezer to the refrigerator in order to cool!

The kenmore coldspot side by side refrigerator is cold but run 24/7 non-stop and I just replace the new control thermostat but it still run 24/7 and what parts to solve this problem?

I would check your condensing coil(usually found underneath unit, remove kickplate below doors) It may be dirty, which will reduce sytem capacity. Also, if you have worked on unit rear, insure that back cover panel is properly installed so airflow will be right. Other than that, if you are cold enough in freezer(ice cream hard), you may want to check gaskets for proper seal/ no tears.

Coldspot model: 78202891 07/1999 runs all the time.

No, that is not the nature of an old fridge. I would seriously consider a service call before throwing it in the landfill

Freezer okay, fridge warm

May need defrosting, so do that, and also unplug the unit for 9 minutes, as this should reset anything that might have affected the problem. Check with Kenmore customer service department on how long the unit takes to get to a set temperature after resetting and consult your manual on your warranty options.
