Question about Hampton Bay 24002 Ceiling Fan

1 Answer

Hampton bay ceiling fan

When replacing the 3 speed switch, what color wires go to 1, 2, 3, and L on the switch. On this fan I have yellow and purple wires coming out of a little black box. The 3rd is an orange wire that comes from the forward/reverse switch. The 4th is a black wire coming out of a plug/receptacle that connects to rest of the fan circuitry. The problem is: I was replacing the 3 speed switch and it brought apart in my hand and I don't know where to terminate the wires.

Westinghouse 3speed fan switch 77288

It's the westinghouse switch. Many results on search. I just wasted 2 hours playing switching wires all combos. Others suggested the switch from Lowe's. Harbor breeze #0033905 . Plug wires back in as you listed Black L, Grey 1, Brown 2, Purple 3. Works perfectly for $3.98 plus tax.

Others said you can call Hampton Bay and get the replacement also.

Fan switch are LJY-280A and E198635

I have a Hampton Bay indoor/outdoor ceiling fan with 3 speed fan switch WU Pin LJY280A, E198635. It is a L-3-1-2 (ccw) switch with purple, grey, black and brown wires. The wiring is different than most on web. The L is not black, 2 is black. My wiring for the switch is L-Purple, 3-Grey, 1-Brown, 2-Black.
Found schematic on web that I think is correct:
Off-none,
Hi-L,1 4uF,
Med.-L,2,3 10uF & 4uF,
Low-L,3 5uF & 4uF.
I hope this helps someone.

Wiring diagram for a 3 way ceiling pull switch.

These fans are manufactured by a number of overseas companies and sold exclusively by Home Depot. They do not have a standard color code for the fan switch. What you can do is turn off the power, keep the white neutral connected. Then using the black power wire fro the ceiling, take one of the switch wires and connect to that black, turn the power on and observe the speed .. low mark it 1, medium mark it 2, high mark it 3. Repeat untill you have identified all the speed wires. Then connect these wires to the 1,2,3, terminations of your new switch
