I am having a problem receiving one very popular AM radio station and am wondering if an external antenna will resolve this problem

Hi , yes is the answer and you will probably pick up more if there are any . You can get very sophisticated motorized antennae that you can operate by moving it in the right direction.

How do I improve my reception on a Bos Wave Radio with single CD player

The Bose uses its power cord as an antenna. The cord has to be stretched out (not coiled) to pick up stations. It also helps if it's oriented the right way -- try changing the direction (having the cord running east to west, say, instead of north to south). Moving the radio and the power cord closer to a window can help, too, especially in a commercial building. These structures often have a steel frame which can block radio signals. If all the above fail, your best bet is to buy an indoor FM antenna, which can be as simple as a piece of wire made into a dipole antenna or as fancy as one of the Terk mini-towers with built-in amp. Bose sells one for their radio, though it's kind of expensive for a simple length of wire. You can get the same thing from Radio Shack, but if you do, be sure to pick up their adapter (catalog 278-257) to plug it into the non-standard Bose jack. All together you'll spend half what Bose wants. Move it around like you did the power cord and you should see a big improvement.

Static on am stations on bose radio

The Bose unit is not the problem, there is interference near by causing the operating frequency to pick up static, check all electrical items in the house including the lights to see if the source can be located, if not it is coming from outside.

I just moved to the US and brought with me a Bose Wave Radio/CD bought in Europe. Do I need a converter or simply an adapter? Thanks!

Unless it has a voltage selector or otherwise accepts 120v power, yes. Its printed on the unit somewhere.

Bose radio will not recieve am stations

The radio has a standard ferrite wrapped coil antenna. The only way it will pick up anything is if you have it above ground, not in a building with metal support beams, and near a window if possible. Basically if a cheap transistor radio will work there, the Bose will work there in AM. They really didn't put too much effort in making the AM radio very functional since AM is not a very popular listening medium anymore.
