Question about Microsoft Wireless Laser Desktop 4000 Keyboard/Mouse

1 Answer

Inverted vertical scrolling

I have a Microsoft Wireless Laser 5000 mouse with the Wireless Desktop 3.1 and all of a sudden, the vertical scrolling is inverted. That is, when I move the mouse down, the cursor moves in the opposite direction, and vice versa. The horizontal scrolling is not affected.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers for the Wireless Desktop, and restarted the computer. The problem persists.

Any advice?

Do you use the "hold middle click" way of panning? If so, check that in the Windows Ctrl Panel under Mouse, that the scroll wheel is set for middle click. Why this is not default on all new mice I do not know!

Replace the batteries, look under the mouse you should see a removable cover, the batteries should be in there.

The wireless mouse works but the laser 5000

press connect on the wireless device...let go and then within 5 seconds press the button on the bottom of the keyboard. Repeat the same steps for the mouse whther its working or not. The problem usually is that the keyboard and mouse are on the same "Wireless Channel" and only resyncing them puts them on a seperate channel, hope this helps.

Microsoft Wireless Laser Mouse 6000 v2.0 Scrolling has gone awry

This may not be a solution for you but at least it may explain the cause of the problem. I recently had the same problem - the scroll wheel suddenly began to go crazy, jumping all the way to the bottom or the top of a document, or randomly skipping around. The unit was still under warranty, and Microsoft sent me a new mouse. Since they did not require me to return the old mouse, I decided to take it apart to see if I could find the problem. I found poorly soldered electrical joints to the optical sensor & LED which convert the scroll wheel movement to electrical signals. After I resoldered these connections the mouse worked fine again.

Fixing the wheel/scroll malfunction was as simple as a reboot. I usually shut down in hibernate. Apparently the system needed a complete reboot to reset.

Assign a keystroke to the mouse, in this instance I assigned 'p' for pan (as per the .pgp file short cuts etc) against the scroll wheel click.

Click the scroll wheel, 'p' comes up on the cad screen, right click to confirm then the pan icon appears, hold the left mouse button and drag at your leisure. Yet to find a fix for Inventor.

Not ideal, but better than nothing at presnt.
