Re: Not reading cds
the lens may have been damaged. what you can do is physically open your cdrom and manually check for the lens. as you open the cdrom panel, be very careful as it would damage the chips inside. as soon as you see the lens, check it first by looking at it and look for dust and residues. clean it thoroughly and try to insert a cd now if it works,

most sony CD and DVD players have a digital signature design to play CDs and DVDs that are original and licensed. some CDs or DVDs dont work since the player does not recognize or scan any digital signature embedded in the CD or a DVD. 2nd, lens problem causes most players not to read CDs nor DVDs. you can try to buy CD or DVD lens cleaners to have your lens cleaned.
either the cds are too scratched or have finger prints or marks on them and need a clean or you need to get a laser lense cleaner to try and clean the lense on your cd / dvd drive and if that does not work then I would test the discs that do not work in that dvd drive in another computer and if that works then may need to replace the drive
