Question about Sony FD Trinitron WEGA KV-20FS120 20" TV

2 Answers

No cable When I plug the cable wire into the VHF/UHF port on my Trinitron, it yeilds no signal. I'm capable of getting a signal by running the cable into a VCR and plugging the VCR in via the three pronged A/V connections, but I obviously must change the channel on the VCR. If I plug the VCR in via VHF/UHF I also get no signal, nor can I play VHS tapes. I wonder if my VHF/UHF jack is broken, or my tuner, or both? What are my options for fixing this, without spending buckets of money?

Tried setting tuner type to cable, and it was already set, so that unfortunately did not solve my problem Thanks for the suggestion though..

We unplugged our Sony Trinitron and moved it to another room. It was working fine prior. We connected the coaxial cable (which is active, tried it on two other tvs) to the cable input labeled VHF/UHF/Cable (the only cable connection). It won't recognize it and continues to say No Signal. I have gone through the owner's manual and done everything they suggest i.e. unplugging it for 60 seconds, checked that the Cable setting was on in the Set Up, performed Auto Program... nothing. Why? It appears this is a very common problem since I have seen numerous posts yet no solutions. Please help.

I've had this tv for a year and have yet to watch a show on it other than my DVD's. I've done everything suggested, but is still doing the same thing(no signal) While my other tv's work fine.

I have the same situation and in the tv/menu changed the settings from digital to analog and now I get a limited number of channels, probably just the analog ones since I have cable service.

Which is better, vhf or uhf

In many business settings you can use either VHF or UHF with success.
VHF: Especially good for people who work somewhat line-of-sight or outdoors. VHF gets around rocks, dirt, hills and trees well and can also be used in many indoor situations.
UHF: While VHF and UHF will both operate line-of-sight up to 2 miles, UHF (450mAH range) gets in and around metal better and even has a better metal punching capability. It also works well in and around concrete structures.

I can't get FOX on my converter box--what is the channel # for FOX?

It could be your antenna. Some retailers sold consumers UHF-only outdoor antennas and not VHF/UHF combo antennas. Other outdoor antennas may not have a power boost included for the VHF antennas (rabbit ears). The new DTV signals from stations are now broadcasting in lower power signals than before June 12.

Outdoor Antenna

KMSP/FOX 9 and KARE 11 both broadcast on VHF signals. WCCO and KSTP broadcast on UHF signals. You will need a VHF/UHF outdoor antenna to pick up KMSP and KARE 11 and also get all the other channels.

Indoor Antenna

Check your antenna to make sure it's a UHF/VHF antenna. You may need an indoor antenna that has rabbit ears -- that is the best way to get KMSP/FOX 9 reception on your TV. Your antenna should have a power boost to amplify the VHF signal if you are having trouble getting FOX 9 or KARE 11.

What Antenna Is Right For You?

Need help locating the proper outdoor antenna to receive your local television broadcast channels? Based on geographical maps and signal strengths, AntennaWeb.org locates the best antenna for you, whether it's a home satellite system, high-definition television (HDTV) or a traditional analog set.

Make sure you antenna is pointed toward Shoreview, where FOX 9 transmits from.

How do we make my TV capable of receiving regular local channels without cable or satellite hook-up?

You would have to hook up an external TV antenna on the UHF/VHF band and run a coaxial cable from the antenna to the TV and plug in the "Belling-Lee" connector into the "Antenna" socket at rear of unit.. This should enable reception via "Normal TV"

I DON'T KNOW HOW TO CHANGE MY TV TO CABLE OPTION RATHER THAN UHF OR VHF

Well let me ask some questions!
1) UHF and VHF are types of off air antenna source signals.
2) Cable TV has both the Analog 'UHF and VHF' signals on them along with the new Digital TV signal sources.
A) Is you TV have a Digital Tuner built into it or are you using a CABLE TV box to hook up to your TV?
Blessings always,

Local channel went digital, lost signal.

You need a digital to analog convertor box to recieve the digital signal.

All UHF+VHF signals will be digital starting in June.

I get no channels wen i plug in my cable wire into the cable jack

Hello,

First, I would change the cable that comes from the wall to the TV.
Plug the cable into the cable port, then go into the menu of the TV. Go to the channel setting and go down to where it says "CABLE YES/NO"and change it to cable YES. Then try to re-autoprogram it.

If there are no channels found after that, then you may have an issue with the tuner.
