VGC-VA1 battery repacement

I have a sony vaio VGC-VA1 desktop which would not start. Manual says replace the battery.. where would the battery be?

Yes- it is not even loading the initial screens. I tried to look for the battery in the motherboard and could not find it at all.

What surprises me is this line from the user manual:

' if the desktop does not powerup, the problem is due to the battery. replace the battery'. Does Sony expects every consumer to know how to replace the battery in the motherboiard?

    Thanks for your comments

Try reading further into the manual usually there are visual diagrams showing where certain parts are and instructions on how to replace them.

replacing the battery on the motherboard would reset your system bios. unless you are positively sure that the motherboard battery is the one that needs replacement, please do not remove it. and once you do remove it, be sure that you know how to set your bios to the proper settings, otherwise, taking it to a technician would probably be more convinient for you. this all depends on you capacity to do simple computer repairs and troubleshooting.

There will be a battery on the motherboard. It will look like a watch battery about the size of a quarter. It should pop out easy.

Is your computer not even loading the manufacturer's screen?

VGC-LT19U This unit has been in storage for 2yrs, and on started up is asking for bios password. I have no idea, called support got a run around and hung up. Please help.

You can remove a BIOS password from any computer by removing the BIOS battery from the machine for about five minutes, and then replacing it. The BIOS battery is a small circular battery, similar to a watch battery.

You can find more information about where the BIOS battery is located in your laptop by consulting the manufacturers documentation which can be found at the link below.

Drivers Needed for RF Receiver

Look in the Drivers directory or partition that shipped on the HD as it was originally shipped, or check out Sony's site e.g. at http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu-list.pl?mdl=VGCVA10MG&LOC=3 ....

Seriously, Sony runs a support line for this stuff too. It's no $70 bench fee to ask them.

I have lost all my freeview channels on my Sony Vaio VGC-VA1,I have tried numerous times to re scan the channels but with no luck, this happened this week end

After the recent retune that all Freeview customers had to do (which failed miserably) this can happen on TV tuners on your pc's aswell.

Try uninstalling the product, and reinstalling, then rescanning. There is a chance this could work.
