Question about Dell Inspiron 6400 Notebook

Insprion 6400/1505 w/1GB ram and 120GB SATA drive - won't power up.

When I attempt to power up the laptop, the 3 indicator lights on the front panel light for about 5 seconds then go out and the laptop won't power up. The power brick has a green light and the battery works in our other laptop. I fear a motherboard or power supply failure. The issue began when our cat puked on the laptop keyboard. We attempted to power down the laptop to no avail and wound up pulling the battery while the laptop was live.

Its not powering the pc up this may mean a mother board failure if you say that the battery works on another pc, if you can still power your battery up with the mains using the laptop then theres no other problems so it is a motherboard problem

Mostlikely the vomit shorted out the mainboard in the laptop and it is no longer good. if you have warranty on it, I would sugest using it.....

With my HP pavilion dv6 1355dx laptop when I hit the power button the processor light and other 2 flash 3 times then stops. my laptop will not turn on at all.

Step 1:

Remove the Battery, Press the Power Button to Discharge any remaining power. Connect Power Adaptor to the Laptop. Attempt to Turn on the Laptop.

Step 2:

If you have any experience with pulling apart computers / laptops, you can very carefully remove the back plate covering the RAM &/or Hard Drive. Sometimes having a faulty hard drive / ram prevents the laptop from being able turn on correctly. In process of elimination try removing idividually the hard drive then followed by each stick of ram.

Please tell me if I can install this SSD drive in my Acer Aspire V3-771G laptop. What is the difference between SSD SATA II and III

A sata 3 SSD on a sata 2 PC will slow down slightly to sata 2 speeds, and vice versa. But this is usually acceptable since any current model SSD is much much faster than a normal hard drive so even installing a slower model SSD will be a big improvement. Its analogous to a porsche 911 and a volkswagen beetle. The 911 is faster than the beetle but both are much faster than horses.

your laptop has a normal hard drive. Most SSD's except apple SSD's are the same size and have the same connectors so 99% of the time it will work. you can see pictures of the SSD and compare it with your current hard drive

Insprion 910 ac and power won't work

The power supply may not be putting out the correct voltage, and since the battery has been removed, "rule out" sub out the ram one at a time testing as you go, if no luck! remove the hard drive and reseat it back in place, still nothing, the motherboard is the likely source, I recommend having it assessed.

My toshiba p305d-s8828 wont start up. the power button light comes on and the fan tries to start for a half second but with the power light on and charger indicator light on it still doesnt start.

Hello chrisiames80,

Welcome and thank you for using FixYa!

This is due to the laptop failing the "Post" process. This symptom typically leads to a point in time when the processor overheated, and is therefore dead. Or the RAM in the laptop is bad.
1. To test the RAM; start by pulling it out and then putting it back in: This will test for an "Un-Seated" stick of RAM.
2. If the laptop still doesn't boot, then you need to test the RAM further by trading it out with a known "working" stick of RAM or have a repair professional do this test for you.
3. If you put in a working stick, and the laptop still won't boot, then it is safe to say the procesor is toast.

If the laptop is only about 1-2 years old, it is worth replacing the processor. If it is older than that, I recommend buying a new laptop and an external enclosure for the drive in the current laptop. That will give you access to your files from the old laptop.

Have a great evening!

I am having hp 530 laptop with intel core duo inside,512mb RAM,80 gb hard disk.I want to upgrade my processor, ramand hard disk. can i do it ? upto what limit ?

Unfortunately I would have to say no, you won't be able to upgrade the processor. I located a user manual at

According to specifications you can increase the Ram to 2 MB and the hard drive should be a 120GB hard driver Sata

System Memory 1024-MB 533/667-MHz DDR2 SDRAM in one slot
Two SODIMM slots; supported memory 2048 MB2
Operates at a maximum of 533-MHz with 667-MHz memory
Hard Drive 120-GB3 5400 rpm SMART SATA

The processor will be limited to what the motherboard can support and it was designed for that 1.6 Ghz processor. Unfortunately it is very difficult to upgrade processors in laptop machines. I do have to ask how old this machine is. The specification indicates MegaBytes of ram and this is actually very little Ram in today's computing world. Most machines support at least 2 gigaBytes of Ram to start with.
