Question about E-Machines eMachines Desktop PC

Flashing power button - no keyboard nor mouse. But PC works... ??

Have an "old" emachine, a simple 2200-series. It is a bit slow but works fine for it's purpose.

Now, when I turned it on I see the blue power button is flashing and the mouse and keyboard is dead when I use the ps2 ports. If I pull out the keybort plug and insert it again, all lamps blink green but the nothing else.

The mouse (a laser mouse) is also dead. I move the mouse to a USB-port and then it get's power and I can atleast click around. I will test a USB keyboard and see if that works.

But I see some ppl have a flashing power button and it seems to indicate a buggy power unit. Could it be just that? Some kind of glitch in the power`? The weird thing is that everything looks like it should, but the dead keyboard and flashing blue power button.

Yes, it may be that the +5v supply from the PSU is faulty, as the PS/2 ports run on 5v and USB runs on 9-12v. Replace the PSU with another of the same form factor and same power rating or better (>=230W). They come at ~£30, so not too expensive. For a little more. Try this:

Does the light flash in a particular pattern? eMachines may have diagnostic codes to let you know what is wrong. eMachines website suggests unplugging the power for 10mins then trying again. Not sure what your exact model number is, but this might help:

I turn on my computer and although the mouse and the keyboard are connected they won't work. I am sure the mouse and the keyboard are fine. There is something wrong with the desktop.

Base from the description of your problem it seems that your computer is having some issue in recognizing your mouse and keyboard.

So what you can do here first is to power off the computer manually by pressing the power button until it shut down, then once its OFF unplug and replug your mouse and keyboard from the computer then power it back ON and check if its fine now.

My emachine T1742 desktop will not turn on. When plugged in the power supply's fan turns on, cpu fan doesnt start, both hdd/power led's flicker and pressing power button doesnt power on/off system.

Disconnect all the devices from the computer(tower) including keyboard, mouse, monitor(everything)..even the power cable

Now keep on holding down the power button on the computer tower for 15-30 seconds..

Now release the power button, plug in the power cable, monitor, keyboard, mouse and turn on the computer...

If it works, great!!!

Otherwise, take it for repair..

Flashing red light

Check your connection at the back, if the mouse is in the mouse port and Keyboard in the keyboard port, these look the same at the back but they are color coded. green is for the mouse and the violet is for the keyboard.

Also check if you have the Cable which run from the monitor plug in the correct one. sometimes there are two port, one is built in the other is a card.

Finaly if the problem persist, there must be a loose connection inside. if you are computer savy and can open the pc check the memory and if there's a video card try to clean them both.

Make sure batteries are good in both the Keyboard and Mouse. Then press the button on the Receiver.
Normal 0 Press the Receiver button (and the lights will start flashing.
Then if the Keyboard isn't working, press the small RESET/CONNECT button on the back of the board to connect the keyboard to the receiver.

If the MOUSE isn’t working, push the small RESET/CONNECT button on the back of the mouse to connect to the receiver. Then they should work okay.
Hope this helps. Bud

Mouse and keyboard not working / recognized by computer

Hi,
If its an USB keyboard and mouse, try to insert keyboard in upper port and mouse in lower port USB.
Sometimes when they Both are inserted in port in same line, they are unable to Fetch equal amount of power.
Try this and do restart your computer, after inserting them in USB ports. All the Best
