Question about Home Theater Systems

Phillips dvd micro theatre mcd 703

We purchased the above unit and while it will play a dvd, it does not have any sound in any mode. We have checked and double checked the connections and are sure we have it hooked up properly, but no sound.

How do i connect my pc to my phillips home theatre system through an hdmi cable

The best way is to connect your laptop to a spare HDMI input on your TV first, then use the AUX OUT from your TV to the AUX IN1 of the Phillips Home theatre system using a standard RCA cable.
The only catch with this is that you will have stereo analog audio, NOT digital surround. However, by pressing the "SURROUND" button of your Phillips HTS remote you can switch the audio output to multi-channel surround, stereo or party mode.
What is the model number of the TV you are using?

Hi, after aprx 1.5hrs of playing a dvd the home theatre system switches off, i then turn it back on and then aprx 1hr later after playing a dvd it switches back off, i repeat the steps above and the time...

Sounds like you have a cold solder connection somewhere on the main board or power supply. It opens when the junction begins to heat up after prolong use. It probably corrects itself when the unit is cold and the junction re-connects. Your best remedy is to inspect the boards and try to locate the bad solder connection. You can do this, but please be careful when working on live circuits, by using a non-conductive pointed tool and poke at suspected joints on the circuit board - if the unit begins to work again, Bingo, you found the problem. Good-luck!
