3 horizontal lines through screen and distortion

I have a Sony Bravia 52" LCD HD TV. The lines and some distortion (mostly on right half of picture) started about 2 months ago. The problems would go away after about 5 -10 minutes initially and now lingers for 30 minutes or more from when you turn the TV on. The TV is only 2 years old. Just want to know if anyone else has experienced the same issue and if there are any solutions that won't cost me mega bucks.

I have the same problem with horizontal lines on my 3 year old 40" Sony Bravia LCD. After 10 minutes the unit heats up and the lines are gone, but it's been getting worse.
If enough people publicize the problem online Sony might decide to repair these defective units, otherwise we're faced with hundreds of dollars in repair costs or junking the televisions!

We have the same problems on our 52" LCD. Left side of screen is very dark and the video is distorted on that part of the screen, There are 3 fine horizontal lines that pretty evenly divide the screen. After 10 or 15 minutes the problem resolves itself, but it seems to be getting worse. We bought an extended warranty from Circuit City but it's gone out of business,

Similar problems on our Sony kdl-52z5100. Darkness flipping around what seems to be quadrants as well as horizontal lines everywhere. After it warms up everything is great, except for a sizable dark line that slowly fades away from left to right. Sony has extended the warranty until March 31, 2014. Model kdl52xbr9 is also affected. This is for model year 2009, and this info was posted by Sony on 6/29/2012. Goto Sony's e support site and look up your model to get the info, even if I didn't mention your model, because Sony like to do stuff like this, and you may have a TV that could burn down your house.

We have the same problem with ours, too, only it's on the left side of the screen. We called Sony (no extended warranty and the tv is now 3 years old) and Sony tells us to call a repair shop. $300 later and they have NO clue what's wrong with our tv. To Fatslob7, PLEASE post the results of your warranty fix as soon as you get it.

Ditto...same issue...we tried replacing the LCD controller board...but didn't fix...my guess is something on the main video output board...(the board between the LCD conrtoller board and the AV/ board

I am experiencing the same problem with the lines, but on the left hand side and it goes away after 15 minutes. The TV is less than two years old, but luckily I purchased an extended warranty and called it in to Sony. I'll report back once the TV has been looked at and serviced.

I am having the same problem with my 3 yr old 52 inch Bravia HD LCD TV. The right side of screen starts out darker than the left side and then in about 5 minutes it brightens on the right and has...

To be honest, it won't be a cheap repair. You could be looking at an aging backlight inverter or possibly the CCFL bulbs that light your tv are aging as well. The backlight inverter would be nearly $60-$90 and the CCFL bulbs are close to $20 each @ 12-14 of them.

Hi,
I'm sorry, it sounds problem with lcd panel (screen) that is defective and causing lower half distorted image. If tv is under warranty then call number written on warranty documents for warranty cover or lcd panel (screen) replacement would cost you approx 80% of new tv price.
Hope these info will help you.

The TV has horizontal lines across about 5 inches apart and some distortion , fading of the picture. This happens for a while and then picture will correct itself but seems to be happening more frequently....

Horizontal lines are relatively rare problem in LCD TVs.

The likely problematic areas are:

1) The LCD itself (the micro ICs embedded into the LCD panel structure); that doesn't sound likely based on what you say, but it's not completely impossible. The bad news is it's mostly uncurable.

2) The power board A-1511-322-D G5
Power boards may sometimes cause problems with display, although rarely causing horizontal lines.
I wouldn't start looking here either, but it is certainly a problem to consider.

3) Main board 1-876-561-13 R1506072C
Slightly more possible and yet not quite likely. A high operating temperature and bad SMD soldering process may cause some soldering contacts on the main board to behave differently when the board is cold versus when it heats up. It is very common and may have all kinds of different effects on the TV and the screen.
One way to check for that is with a regular dryer..the process is explained in many other solutions at fixya and around the net, so I wouldn't repeat it here...but it takes time and patience.

4) The most likely place to start with is the T-Con / LCD controller
404652ASNC6LV4.1 M139.

I'd first replace that and see if the problem goes away.

5) There's a very minor chance that the LVDS cable that connects the main board with the T-Con does not make good contact initially and changes that as a result of getting hot. It's easy to just touch and move it lightly when the TV is still cold to see if it has an effect on the picture.

Sorry I couldn't just nail it for you, but that's the nature of the repair businss :-)

Hdtv picture freeze

I also have a Brand new Sony Bravia 52" LCD with Comcast Cable (motorola box). When switching between HD Channels sometimes the left side of the screen shows a smushed version of the new channel, and the right side is a frozen picture of the previous channel. I correct this by switching to a non HD channel and back. Cable or TV problem I wonder?
