Note: Note: Red Hat versions 5.1 and earlier used the BIND 4.x package, which used a slightly different format for its configuration file. BIND 8.x offers more functionality over that offered by BIND 4.x, and as 4.x is no longer being developed, you should probably consider upgrading your BIND package to the latest version. Simply install the BIND RPM package (see Section 10.1 for details on using the RPM utility), then convert your configuration file to the new format.

First I need more information on your LINUX... what is the base??? I presume Red Hat 5.4?? what is the Desktop distribution (if using a desktop)???, what are the exact make and model numbers of the peripherals that are not working in the computer (video card, lan card, sound card)??? did the computer came with Linux pre-installed??, I'm more of a DEBIAN base Linux with a Gnome desktop distro user... but maby I can help... also what are the exact problems with all those cards??? starting with the network card... (one problem at a time)

First and formost, you need following check list before configuration
1) System partition must be formatted as NTFS.
2) Machine must have static IP address.
3) DNS installed

Then run a dcpromo command and configure domain.

DNS Name resolution Between private & Public network.

You do not need to configure ISP's PTR records. Instead define their DNS addresses as forwarders in the properties of DNS server under forwarders tab and flush DNS cache.

It is a design problem. Check whether the DNS Server is working properly or not. Seems you will have to do a good work around. Go through the microsoft KBs with the event IDs
