Wireless Network Card

Have been trying for many months to get wireless on my Acer Aspire 3000 laptop, the provider of my internet is orange. I am unsure whether there is a built in wireless card, i have never found one in device manager. Will i need to buy this seperately? When trying to set up a network i am also asked to insert a usb device, is this essential too, to getting wireless on my laptop?

Just got aspire 3000 .How do I turn on the wireless capeability

The wireless feature (Wireless LAN) on an Acer notebook allows you to connect to available networks. This convenience allows you to use the Internet with network cables, modems or network installation. Acer laptops come with a wireless switch to turn the wireless feature on or off. Once you enable the wireless feature, your Acer notebook can connect to wireless networks within range.

Follow these Instructions

Locate the Wireless LAN switch located on the front of your Acer Notebook. Move the switch to the right to turn on Wireless connections.

Right-click the network icon located on the system tray next to the clock. You should see a list of available wireless networks.

Select the network you want to connect to and click "Connect."

My Acer Aspire 3000 does not recognize my wireless network anymore. It says it cannot find any networks - I verified that the network is ok. The device manager says the device is working properly. I went...

Check in the bottom right hand corner for another program that might be accessing the wireless hardware. Belkin (for example) often have their own connecting software that conflicts with the windows version.

Cant access internet through wireless network.

How do you know your notebook is connected to your wifi AP? Did you try pinging the gateway? If not, open your command window & type "ping 192.168.0.1" (put in your own gateway address.) If you get replies, then ping something outside of your network: "ping 4.2.2.2" (this is a verizon dns server). If you get replies, then "ping yahoo.com". If it does not fail at any of the above steps, you don't have a connectivity problem. If you fail any of the above, then report back & we'll continue the troubleshooting.
