Installing NVidia 8500GT XFX 256MB graphics to A8N-VM Motherboard

Hi,
Im facing problem in installing the graphics card mentioned above. My motherboard has on board graphics card. Can any one who has installed graphics card in A8N-VM show some pointers as how to install.
The actual problem is as below
1. I inserted the graphics card to PCI Express slot in MB.
2. Changed the setting in BOIS to PCIE->PCI->AGP(I didn't find any option for disabling onboard graphics)
3. Booted the PC. I tried to install the drivers which were given with graphics card. But it gave error saying that the VGA Driver installed seems not a nvidia product. Please download driver from nvidia.com.

The chances are that you have an old motherboard which is not compatable with the new graphic card. Or you may be running windows 98 and are downloading the driver for xp or visa versa. The probable solution, will be to sell the new card on ebay and buy the best old card you can off ebay. Or just make do with the card you already had in your computer. If you are determined to have a better graphics card. A motherboard upgrade with better graphic card may be the best answer or buy a better spec pc second hand if you don't have much money. You'll probably waiste a lot of time trying to get the new card to work and it probably never will.

Try to reinstall the stock driver that came along the card in the box, if that still won't help try installing the newest driver, the next newest driver and so on.

Screen not starting after installing graphics card

Hi rohit1987,

The XFX NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT 256MB DDR3 PCI Express card uses two DVI ports on the back of the card. Display is most likely coming from the second port. Try moving your monitor cable to the next DVI port. You can do this while your system is running.
If you still do not receive display, post that here & we'll go over some other possibilities.

Good luck rohit1987!
Thank you for using fixya.

Graphics card problem

Hi rovin,
So you bought an XFX GeForce 256MB video card. You're board has 1 free AGP 8x video slot & 3 PCI (White opened slots).
You mention there is not slot for the new card. (What type of video card did you buy)? PCI-E, AGP or PCI?
The only slot you're board does not have is a PCI-Express.
Look in you're manual on page 1-7 for the location of the AGP video card slot.
94565e6.jpg If you bought the wrong card, exchange it for an AGP 8x or PCI.
The ASUS P5PE-VM uses a integrated Intel® 865G chipset with integrated Intel® Extreme Graphics 2 Technology, which uses you're system memory to function.
If you need a manual you can download it from Asus. Click on the link to open to the P5PE-VM download site.
http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?modelname=P5PE-VM&SLanguage=en-us

I hope you find this helpful.
