No start concern - Mitsubishi Outlander 2004

2004 Mitsubishi Outlander - Battery was replaced 2 months ago because of a no-start concern. Car would not turn over yesterday, was jumped and started. Now stalls out (automatic) and threatens to stall if foot is not kept on gas.

  • Anonymous Mar 17, 2012

After removing battery or flat battery the engine management will take some time to reset. I found with my Outlander that I start the car and keep my foot on the gas until the computer resets its self. This sometimes takes a while.

Check the IAC valve...or sometimes known as an electronic choke. That valve is how your engine gets air when the throttle body plate is closed. If the valve is stuck due to malfunction or carbon build up then it will cause that problem, and give you a rough idle at best.

Where are the spark plugs located on a mitsubishi outlander 2004?

spark plugs are under valve cover. Each plug has its own coil pack module. Plug is under this. Be ware, factory plugs may have to be ordered ( $ 15 - 20 ea.) , depending on parts stores in your area. here in Canada, some stores had wrong computer listings for all brands of plugs for this car!! The factory plugs are NKG Iridium, and are longer than conventional plugs!! I'm about to change mine ( 160000 KM's).Looked at plugs cpl mths ago, didnt look too bad. Hope to get another 160 K's from new ones ! Good luck .!

Battery not keeping charge - replaced battery a month ago - how do you test the alternator ? Now the A/T TEMP and BRAKE light appear lit in red. The car will not start without a jump

best and easiest way to test the alternator is to take it to an auto parts store... they will test the battery and charging system for free so that they can try to sell you parts

Sears will charge like $30 but give you that money back towards the price of the repair

without a load tester there is not much you can do to test the charging system correctly

2004 Mitsubishi Outlander AWD, over heats when idle/stopped, cools down when driving. Added antifreeze 2 weeks ago, problem fixed until yesterday when started heating up again during idle, antifreeze...

Sounds like the electric fan is not coming on. Could be the switch screwed into the radiator, a malfunctioning fan relay, a blown fan fuse or the fan motor has gone bad.

Mitsubishi outlander cooling fans not operating

There is a Recall to replace your cooling fan module because of this concern.

Open your hood and look at the black box bolted to your radiator fan by the battery. If it does not have a green dot on it, you have not had the replacement fan module installed.

Contact your local dealer with your VIN handy to verify the recall has not been done and to schedule an appointment.

If the recall has been done, verify if you have power coming out of the module to the fans, as the fans do burn out eventually.... but rarely both at once.
