Question about Western Digital 320GB MyBook External USB 2.0 Hard Drive

My hard drive is not working

I plug the Hard Drive into the computer, it seems to register that it is connected, because the fan starts to spin and the light goes on (the light only goes on when it is actually connected to the computer), but then everything stops, and even when I unplug it the light stays on... It is not registering on my computer or seeming to aknowledge that it is connected after the initial response...

What works?

Re: My hard drive is not working

is the system load the bios or nothing happen ? In this case the system not detected the memory maybe the memory lessen, fix it firmly and start the system again.

disregard the solution above if the harddrive is detected in the bios. there is a four connection in the IDE /PATA hard drive.

P master
P Slave
S Master
S Slave
if you connect or use one IDE cable in two connection, the other should be in slave. master is where the Operating system is.

try to verify the hard drive label for a master or a slave harddrive.

If this solution not solve, please notify me b4 u rate so that i can give you further solution. thanks!

Hdd does not show any signs of life. The motor does not spin up hdd type is Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 160Gb model number ST3160023AS firmware 8.12 Drive card no is 100340680

If the motor does not spin up, then check to see if it is plugged into the power supply properly. To do this, open your computer , locate the hard drive (usually in the lower front) and look for the two cables that should be going into it. One that is almost double the width of the other. The wider one is power, whereas the narrower one is data. Make sure that both of these cables are firmly plugged into your drive. If the cables have fallen out, then look around your case for them, they should be simple to find, they're the thin, wide ones without a lot of holes in the end of it. If it's properly plugged in, and the problem persists, then you have a dead hard drive, sells hard drives for a good price, if you wish to go that route.
Hope this helps!

If the computer cannot boot up then to retrieve your data then remove the hard drive from the computer and connect it to an USB hard drive adapter. Then plug the adapter into a working computer's USB port. This computer will detect this as an external storage device. You can then click on this device and open the folders and files to copy and backup your data files.

My 120 Hitachi hard drive is not detecting any more

All I can think of is to completely remove all ya USB layer, via Device manager, uninstall & remove drivers on everything USB, then reboot, and then after try to plug ya drive in again BUT after it finishes re-installing the USB layer give it 5 mins or so...then do so. GL

Hard drive is not powering up any longer

I think so, As far as i understand, your pc is not powering on unless you dont plug in you hard drive right?Check wether it is ATA, or Serial ATA (SATA)?
THE problem is circuit, and i think you hard drive is JUNK!
(ATA)..1- Take a gd look at the drive, where you plug in the power cable, and make sure the 4 tubes are far enought.
2- Replace the IDE cable.
(SATA).. 0- Replace the cable.

gd luck

Drive is a blinking brick of garbage.

Is the hard drive a USB external device?
Does the hard drive spin up at all or does it make clicking sounds?
If the hard drive spins it may not be faulty, it may be a faulty USB hard drive adapter case.
Put the hard drive in another USB hard drive adapter and connect it to a computer, if it still doesn't work then the hard drive has died.

Dude, check when you start your PC if the fan spin, if not, the problem isn't your HDD could be your motherboard or your power supply.

Western Digital hard drive problem

Ok.  I have a WD 500 and I have ran into similar problems.  First, shut your computer down.  Unplug the hard drives USB cable and the power cable.  Wait for about 2 minutes.  Plug the USB cable into the computer, plug the power cord in...wait for 30-45 seconds and then start your computer.  That hopefully should solve your issues.

External hard drive problem!

yes u can try checking the power supply of the casing
try other power supply of same capacity
if there is no solution for problem u can try changing the casing
if both the things are working fine then you will have to check the hard drive connecting directly to the computer internally
