Question about Western Digital 320GB MyBook External USB 2.0 Hard Drive

My hard drive is not working

I plug the Hard Drive into the computer, it seems to register that it is connected, because the fan starts to spin and the light goes on (the light only goes on when it is actually connected to the computer), but then everything stops, and even when I unplug it the light stays on... It is not registering on my computer or seeming to aknowledge that it is connected after the initial response...

What works?

is the system load the bios or nothing happen ? In this case the system not detected the memory maybe the memory lessen, fix it firmly and start the system again.

disregard the solution above if the harddrive is detected in the bios. there is a four connection in the IDE /PATA hard drive.

P master
P Slave
S Master
S Slave
if you connect or use one IDE cable in two connection, the other should be in slave. master is where the Operating system is.

try to verify the hard drive label for a master or a slave harddrive.

If this solution not solve, please notify me b4 u rate so that i can give you further solution. thanks!

Well, It sounds like there is something lodged in your Hardware drive...The beeping is probably a warning signal to tell you that it is not properly booting up...You should go to a Computer Repairman...

Either the hard drive went bad or the electronics of the enclosure went fubar. Suggest you remove HD and directly connect it to your desktop computer to see if the cmos recognizes it along with the OS. If so you can access your data. If not, the drive is ng - if the drive at least spins and is recognized you may be able to retrieve the contents using windows explorer. If unit will not spin you are in deep doo doo.
Do not format - that will erase everything - try to access the data.

One bad lead can cause a computer to continue on a cycle or to shutdown or fail to detect your hard drive

Test all leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions,IDE,SATA

the leads from your motherboard to your hard drive make sure they have a secure connection and are not faulty or just replace them there probably old and faulty

hope this helps

MY HARD DISK SV4002H 40 GB IS NOT DETECTED BY THE SYSTEM AND I NEED THE DATAS. WHAT IS TO BE DONE

If the computer cannot boot up then to retrieve your data then remove the hard drive from the computer and connect it to an USB hard drive adapter. Then plug the adapter into a working computer's USB port. This computer will detect this as an external storage device. You can then click on this device and open the folders and files to copy and backup your data files.

All I can think of is to completely remove all ya USB layer, via Device manager, uninstall & remove drivers on everything USB, then reboot, and then after try to plug ya drive in again BUT after it finishes re-installing the USB layer give it 5 mins or so...then do so. GL

Drive is a blinking brick of garbage.

Is the hard drive a USB external device?
Does the hard drive spin up at all or does it make clicking sounds?
If the hard drive spins it may not be faulty, it may be a faulty USB hard drive adapter case.
Put the hard drive in another USB hard drive adapter and connect it to a computer, if it still doesn't work then the hard drive has died.

Dude, check when you start your PC if the fan spin, if not, the problem isn't your HDD could be your motherboard or your power supply.

Western Digital hard drive problem

Ok.  I have a WD 500 and I have ran into similar problems.  First, shut your computer down.  Unplug the hard drives USB cable and the power cable.  Wait for about 2 minutes.  Plug the USB cable into the computer, plug the power cord in...wait for 30-45 seconds and then start your computer.  That hopefully should solve your issues.

Leave it unplugged for a minute or so and see if it boots up.
Check the Power supply if it still works.
