Keyboard? Hello, Im trying to bring up my old desktop's performance, because de HDD died on me a few weeks ago, I bought a new one (IDE 120Gb) and I installed it (checked the slave/master thing of course), the BIOS detected it and all was cool, I inserted my windows cd in order to install my OS and use this new drive as my only one, but when I get to the screen where the installation disc shows you the active partitions and the disc space, my keyboard doesn't respond, so I can't do anything, I tried changing the port I is plugged into, I tried with a usb to ps2 converter, flashing the bios, looking for somn in the BIOS, but nothing works, when my pc starts it works, i can enter the bios an averything but when it gets to the exact point I mentioned, the keyboard dies, what should I do????

windows XP, Motherboard is Biostar P4, Intel celeron D 2.2 Ghz, KB works in bios, and shows leds while initiating OS setup, when I get to check the hard drive (free space, partitions, etc.) the keyboard dies, and the led goes off. this is surely a weird problem, I've only found one dude in the web that happened something like this :S (nobody gave him an answer in that forum, so... >.<)

I bought a lenovo computer a week ago and would like to know how i can boost up the signal please without costing me an arm and a leg.

What kinda signal ?
For performance improvement you must start replacing the HDD with an SSD.
Try a Samsung SSD 850 EVO 120Gb, is the best replacement you can do.
It will cost you some money but worth, the result will be a miracle.

Can't read HD-- I/O error

"Joecolvette" has probably got it right, I've seen this before. The HDD enclosure circuit board has a fault. Can be resolved by replacing the enclosure. Plenty on ebay, just ensure you buy one with the correct HDD interface (Sata or IDE).

Alternatively, if you have a tower with a spare port, you could take the HDD out of the caddy, install it in the tower as a "Slave" (check jumper settings) ensuring the system drive is set to "Master". Then you can check whether the HDD itself is at fault.

Cant detect my western digital hard drive help! philippnes!

Shut down the computer.Disconnect the ide cable from hdd .Just connect using primary hdd and boot the computer. Shut down the computer. Connect the secondary hdd both IDE and power cable. Restart the system and go to bios . Check if the both hdd are detected in bios. If detected boot to desktop. If not detected reset bios settings to default.Restart computer and check. IF still not detected shutdown computer.Disconnected secondary hdd and primary hdd, connected secondary hdd to primary ide connecter and check in bios. If still not detected try connecting secondard hdd on different computer and check.

How to install bigger HD in IBM 300GL GL PC? Any limitations?

Is it IDE or SATA? Put the Hdd in your pc, on IDE, the wide ribbon cable is for data, it can only go in one way, and power is the molex connector. 4 power points, ussualy 4 wires. orange, black, red, black, yellow. can only go in one way. thats it. Make sure that if you are running cd/dvd roms and you have 2 hdd's, that the two hdds run on the same ribbon cable, and the cd roms on their own cable. also put the new hdd to slave. (you change it via jumper settings, ussualy printed on the hdd itself)

SATA is easier. you need two cables. sata power, and data. they can also only go in one way. google sata connectors if you don't know how they look. though, if i is a PIII board, i doubt it'll support SATA, so you'll need to buy an IDE hdd.

Goodluck

Vaio keyboard ?

I just finished working on a pcv-w510g and in my case it seems some liquid was dropped on it, and the chip is messed up. (i saw this when i opened it). you can try to:
Plug in another keyboard and type in the password.  Try to acess the bios and disable stop on keyboard errors. Or open the keyboard and unplug it compleatly if it helps.
Or take out the HDD and put it in an external enclosure or in another pc to get the data off.

New hard drive choices

Hello, Bob!

Seeing as I am a 6 year veteran of Dell Tech Support, I should be able to help you out, no problem.

One thing that I would like to let you know is this: according to Dell Support Policy, you ARE allowed to put a non-Dell-branded hard drive in your computer. However, if Dell Support deams that this non-Dell hdd has caused another Dell component to fail, they will not replace the defective product. BUT, since it is HIGHLY unlikely that a non-Dell hdd would actually cause any other failure, feel free to purchase a non-Dell hdd. (I often times suggested that customers take this route because unless you're purchasing a refurbished Dell product, you're only paying for the Dell name.)

Anywho...

There really are no limitations to what size hdd you can install in your computer. Of course, a larger hdd will take more time to process information (Basically, there's more surface area to scan when your computer is searching for a specific piece of information.). Your main thing will be determining if you have an IDE hdd or a SATA hdd.

The Dell Tech website CAN be your friend (support.dell.com). From there, you can view original configuration and even available upgrades simply by entering your service tag (Usually found toward the back of your computer, on a black sticker with white text. It should list your service tag, an alpha-numeric value, and express service code, an all-numeric value).

If I were in your position, I would most likely not go over a 160g or 200g hard drive... simply to keep decent performance.

Hope I helped!

Hard drive dont load up properly

your hard drive is dead mate. sorry. they die form time to time.
buy yourself a new hard drive and an external hard drive caddy (a 3.5" one) make sure the caddy is the right connection for your old hard drive. either sata or ide.
then put the new hard drive into your pc to take the place of your old one, and load windows onto it.
next get your old hard drive into the usb haddy drive caddy/enclosure, connect it all up and see if you can use the ghost function on norton anti-virus secruity to bring back your old data.

hope this helps.

Hi Ryk,

I remember that I have suggested you to use three point IDE cable. But I don't know what type of cable you have purchased.

Anyway here is picture of the IDE cable which i was suggested.

I have suggested to connect the point, but you can use any combination which is comfirtable for you.

If any problem just Ask me

Thanks
