Bose PS321 No Sound

My Bose PS321 home Theater System has absolutely no sound. It worked fine, was disconnected to reconnect to different TV and had no power. I checked and replaced blown fuse inside power supply. I got it powered up, but then no sound. This unit had previously been connected to this same TV before without a problem. Checked the MOV and it doesnt appear shorted. R10 appears to have gotten hot because its dark, but offers an adequate measurement. Any suggestions? Thanks!

    Same thing exactly

  • Gary12345 Feb 26, 2008

Our unit powers up, but we get no sound. We always have had problems with this thing. We should have gotten an expensive, high end system. Oh wait a minute, we did!

Buyer beware: observe all the Google hits for "bose repair". It must be all the moving parts that wear out - oh wait a minute, there are no moving parts. There's just junk electronic parts inside of a fancy marketed, overpriced product here..

There is no sound from my Bose 3-2-1 system. It was working ok a day ago and suddenly nothing works. I can't even play the DVD any more. How do I check if the fuse has blown or determine the cause of this using some basic troubleshooting steps.

Same porblem - no sound. I've had this unit for over 3 years and the sound just stopped working. Any possible solutions?

  • Anonymous May 29, 2008

Mine plays sound, but only the music score, etc. There is no audible dialog on movies. Weird. Oh, then suddenly there is this loud BUZZZZZ!

This thing has already been sent back to BOSE for repairs. They have a flat rate that they insisted on charging, even though we were less than a month beyond the warranty (and, in fact, the damn thing broke while within the warranty--I procrastinated).

Their stuff is junk. We also bought the super duper WAVE cd/radio with a CD changer that stopped working and ate my CDs after almost no use.

Finally, we originally financed through them with a very predatorial finance company. It was a horrible experience.

We'll never have anything to do with BOSE products again.

same thing..mine worked fine w/ my sony bravia for a while and now no sound! i tried to hook the system up a couple of different ways - no luck. i had to send this pos back once because the sensor did not work and now this. i doubt it is still under warranty. what a waste of money. hopefully they will offer good customer service and let me send it back so they can diagnose the problem. if they want to charge me hundreds of dollars i am going to just throw it in the trash. sad.

The power supply is 29 volts raw voltage, the IRFI44N fet on the power board is used is a switcher.
It reduces the voltage to 17 volts which is required for the AV3-2-1 meda center. The higher voltage biases the sound to cut off and can blow the drivers, try changing the fet and see if plays........

Hi - I had the same problems - it was working, then the sound popped out and then nothing.  I referred to the Bose website and it said unplug the power pack for a few seconds, which resets the system.  After that all was fine.  This is the easiest first step.  If this doesn't work, your system may need to be serviced.

First things first @ Gary12345 Bose is and has always been overpriced and never offered the quality that you would expect from the price. I would stick with brands that actually offer quality like Dennon, Onkyo, Harmon Kardon, and others. Now for the problem. kamige21 it sounds like you have it open and are checking the components. I would try to find the power supplies and look at the high voltage power supply to see if the transistors are open as that sounds like the most likely problem from what I read. If they are not then I would check the amplifiers see if they are showing open. look for any capacitors that are bulging as that is a sign that they are bad or are going bad.

Bose system is just over 1 yr old, hooked up to Smart Tv ( same age) sound was working fine, turned volume down, no sound at all after that

Hi, You have a Bose Home Theater System hooked up to your television and I'm wondering if you're controlling the volume through the Bose Home Theater System or the television because both have a volume control and if you have the television volume turned down and you're using the Bose Home Theater System for volume or visa-versa then you're not going to get a decent sound. I hope you know what I mean...... CHEERS..

I have a Bose Lifestyle v20 home theater system and whenever I use the radio ( FM/AM ), no sound/music comes out. The rest are fine, but only the FM/AM ones dont work. It used to, but now its gone.

I hope you checked if the antenna wire is connected before reporting this defect.
All modern radios have automatic muting. No sound will come out unless the receiver gets enough signal strength to give you an undistorted sound, so if your antenna wire is disconnected you will get no sound.

Have a Bose 3-2-1 Series III. When I put in a DVD, I get sound through the Bose but no picture on my Pioneer TV. This is the second time it has happened. The first time it, we managed to get it going...

Here are 3 things to try and an if all else fails at the end.

1) Make sure the TV is set to the correct Video Input to see the video from DVDs on the Bose system.
• Make sure a DVD is in the disc tray.
• If the TV is connected to the media center using the HDMI cable:
Switch from one Video Input to another and then back to the original input.

2) Turn everything off, then:
Turn on the TV and set the TV Video Input for the Bose system video.
Turn on the Bose system and press DVD.

3) Turn off both the TV and the Bose system and then:
Unplug the HDMI cable from both ends.
Disconnect the power cables from both your TV and the Bose 321 system.
Re-connect power to the TV and to the Bose 321 system.
When the Bose 321 system startup message disappears from the display,
re-connect the HDMI cable to the TV then Bose 321 system.
Turn on the TV first, then turn on the Bose 321 system.

If all the above fail then disconnect the HDMI cable that connects the TV to the Bose 321 system and reconnect the two using a Component cable, an S-Video cable, or the Composite cable provided with the system.

Audio problems with Bose 321 system

Hi, sounds like the centre front speaker is disconnected. Check the wiring on that, if all is good there then a fault most likely with the amp. To make sure try connecting a different speaker to the centre channel just for test purpose to eliminate a speaker/cable fault. Best of luck

I have a BOSE Lifestyle 48 without sound

Not sure if this is the same problem, but I lost audio from the Stored, TV, Radio and my external speakers, but still had audio for the CD/DVD. I contacted Bose (Australia) support and they talked me through a solution that worked for me.
Remove the power cord from the Media centre, then while holding down the 'All Off' and 'Vol down' buttons on the Media Centre, reconnect the power (and continue to hold the buttons down). After 10 secs, release the buttons and turn the Media centre on. Everything worked fine for me after doing this.
Full marks to Bose for the phone support. I hope this helps someone else.

No sound through Bravia speakers after BOSE removed.

Did you ever have audio through your tv before?
It's likely that your Comcast cable box was connected directly to your Bose system, and not your television.
You'll need to check the connections from your cable box, to your television.
