This a new problem that has just appeared on my eMachines D620 laptop after a year of faultless performance. Now, the battery will not charge when the computer screen is on: I get an intermittant alarm and the charging light flashing on and off. The pwer meter says "plugged in, not charging". However, the battery will re-charge with no problem if the lid is shut and it is in hibernate mode. Hss anyone else experienced this problem? Is it easy to fix? Many thanks! Malcolm
Possibility is that your laptop's adapter's output is no longer capable of supplying enough power to charge the battery & operate the laptop simultaneously. Please try a replacement adapter & check if it resolves your problem.
Another possibility:
There could be a problem with the battery. A fast check to determine whether you have a problem with the power
adapter, power cord or the laptop's battery is to turn off the laptop,
remove the battery, connect the power adapter, turn on the laptop &
see if it works.
If the laptop works directly from the power adapter
with the battery removed, then the power adapter is good. In this case
we can suspect that the battery is defective & needs to be replaced.
