The picture scrambles several times during the day and the only way to stop it is shut the computer off at the tower and then restart and reboot. We borrowed a monitor to see if that was the problem but...

The picture scrambles because the video chip overheats and malfunctions. Open the case and do a full cleaning. If necessary add an extra fan - $10 at all IT shops.

Hp pavillion 533w wont boot up green light on front comes on but thats it no fans coming on either

Hi ,

If the green light comes on on the front panel then it means the fan is spinning so what u can do is a self test for the monitor.Disconnect the vga cable from the back panel of the computer tower and then check if there is a message displayed on the monitor that should say check video signal or no inoput signal ,if there is no such message displayed then it means the monitor is a fault .If not then reset the memory card and then check .U can also run a test for the motherboard to do this u will have to remove the memory card and then turn the computer on if u hear long beeping noise it means the motherboard is fine .If u dont hear any sound then the mother board needs to be repaired or replaced...

all the best

HP Pavilion 533w on hard boot finds the HDD on softboot (restart) it does not.

Check to see if you're running the latest bios revision. It's on HP's support page for your model.

Just opened my laptop to clean the fan , when i put it back together again it powers up for 5 seconds then powers off again , please help.

Seems like your Ram or CPU Chip is either out or wasn't seated in its slot properly. You may want to open it back up and check for any mistakes.

Case fan for pavilion 533w

well the fan sizes usually go like this.

If 80mm is too small then its got to be 92mm or 120mm but 120mm are usually reserved for the more expensive pcs and\or servers.

My hypothesis is that its 92mm has extremly cheap fans try them first.

Hope this helps

Computer shuts down

Almost certainly an overheating problem. Speed Fan will provide a temperature monitoring solution if you don't have one built-in: This program will also give you S.M.A.R.T. info. Open the case and look for dust bunnies, especially in the heat sink and fan areas.
