I have the same exact problem. Epson support staff was of little help. I think it is ridiculous to have to disconnect my answering machine that is connected downstairs on the phone in the kitchen and connect it up stairs in the bedroom where I have the CX9400FAX. The fax function for receiving faxes is useless. I can fax out but cannot receive faxes.

I have the same problem. Did not know when I bought the machine that the answering machine had to be hooked up directly to the CX9400. Useless to fax out when the CX9400 is upstairs in the office and the answering machine is in a more convenient location (kitchen) for my wife. This snag should be more clearly explained in the literature.

I was told I need to change the baud rate to 9600, but I cannot get Epson to tell me how. Any ideas?

I had the same problem, I called Vonage Tech Support. All Fixed in less than 5 minutes. Great AllInOne. I could not send a fax. I referred to Epson Quick Guide, same problem. Vonage had me switch a few cables. Fax sent okay, Vonage sent me a test fax, received okay.

I have the same problem with my Epson Workforce 600 All-in-one, that is, when my phone answering machine (in the kitchen) answers first, the Epson Workforce 600 fax (in my home office) fails to receive the fax. Are there any work-arounds for this, other than connecting the answering machine directly to the All-in-one as suggested by others here?

I have the same problem with my new Epson Workforce 600 All-in-one. That is, when my phone answering machine (in my kitchen) answers first, the Epson All-in-one fax machine (in my home office) fails to receive the fax. This happens even though everything is configured properly according to the owner's manual for the printer. Talked with Epson Tech Support and initially they said it should work, but later in the discussion they said that I should connect the answering machine directly to the EXT line of the Epson All-in-one. I'd like for things to work (as they did with my 7 year old HP All-in-one) with the answering machine still in my kitchen and the Epson All-in-one in my home office. Any work-arounds or solutions now that this has been a problem with Epson printers for some time now?

Epson Quick Guide is incorrect.

Not sure of your exact situation but .........
Your answering machine MUST be connected directly to the output of your CX9400 and you can't use an answering machine with multiple "mailboxes". Set your answering machine to 4 and your CX9400 to 5/6 rings. Epson "Technical Support" has no clue of this problem .... yet.

The machine routes the call to your answering machine, it it's an incoming FAX and the answering machine starts the CX9400 will recognize the incoming transmit signal, turn on the FAX function, and disconnect your answering machine.

You may need to adjust the CX9400 rings setting based upon the duration of your answering machines announce message (longer message = greater number)

SOURCE: How do I change baud rate to 9600 on Epson CX9400Fax?

This fax speed is 33.6 or 33600
You can change settings to 14.4 or 14400 but not to 9.6 or 9600.
Under: Fax Settings you have this choices:
Speed Dial Setup
Scan and print setup
Communication
Header and time

Under Communication:
DRD
ECM - error correction put this one: off
V.34 - this one is for speed: on - 34400; off - 14400

I had a wireless router installed and can no longer fax using CX9400FAX series. Receive communication error ''no dial tone''. There is a phone line from the phone to printer and from printer to wall jack....

Hi,

I too was having the same problem. We too have a wireless router hooked up. However, that had nothing to do with the problem. Our problem was that the top phone line port on the fax machine should run to the phone jax in the wall. The bottom phone line port on the machine should run to the phone. We had them switched around.

I hope this helps.
