Question about Hotpoint VBXR1090D Top Load Washer
Sounds like the clutch in between the tranny and the tub is bad. It's nothing more than a simple drum brake, like what's on a car. It's an easy rebuild, but you have to take the agitator out, which you do by finding the split in the top cap and popping it out with a knife blade, removing the nut, and pulling up HARD. Then flip the unit on it's back and pull the bolts off the thing (transmission) that's attached to the motor that goes into the tub. Pull it out and that thing that's looking at you is the clutch, aka drum brake. If it is the culprit you will see stress cracks, glazing or just worn pads on the shoes (brakes) or a cracked or greasy look to them. If this isn't the case, then it may be in the transmission.
