Re: PS3 wont start up properly
Have you performed any updates recently? If so, then if a friend of yours has a known working ps3, or if you want to buy one for a backup, see if you can swap hdds for a test. It won't ruin theirs, it's just a test to see if it might have been an update. If it works fine, and you have two sata connectors on your PC's motherboard, then you can format yours with MSDOS on the command prompt and copying your friends files over to yours. You will have to completely format your drive to remove any and all corrupted files. Here's one I found on Ebay

your PS3 is freezing simply because your console is
affected by heat, so you have to cool it down. If the freezing
continues even after cooling down, you can follow the steps below:
stop the PS3 from Freezing, you could begin by putting off your console
and wait for 20 minutes. After that, put it back on. Check if
there's any loose cables. If there is, put them back in.
If the problem still persist, try the below steps,
Turn off Playstation®3. 2. Hold the power button down; the system
will turn on and turn off once again. 3. Once the System has been
shutdown, re-press you finger until you hear 2 consecutive beeps 4.
When you hear the 2 beeps take finger off power button. 5. You will
be prompted to plug in your controller via USB and then hit the PS
button 6. The Recovery menu will pop up.
The current Recovery
Menu supports: • Restart System: Restarts the PLAYSTATION®3 System. •
Restore Default Settings: Reset all system settings back to default. •
Restore File System: Checks for corrupt/missing system files. •
Rebuild Database: Rebuilds the OS for the PLAYSTATION®3. • Restore
PS3 System: Fresh restore; Deletes everything and starts from Scratch. •
System Update: Update the PLAYSTATION®3 System.
Power the system on wait 2-3 minutes then hold your hand on the power button (like you would to shut it off) but keep your finger on the power button until you hear the system beep at you twice. The system will reset to default settings (It may or may not restart depending on the model of ps3 you have, if it doesnt restart, you have to turn it on by yourself) good luck
Hi, this sounds like a hard drive problem. Try taking your hard drive out and putting it in another PS3 to see if it does the same thing. If it does, then your hard drive is damaged and needs replaced.Your hard drive is located on the side of your PS3, pop the cover off and remove the retainer screw and slide it to the front of the PS3 (pull straight out on some models).
it is also possible that the console melted the bus lines on the board
while taking apart the last 20 or so ps3 consoles i have noticed severe bus "leaking"i believe when this happens the console still recognizes its "funk" but can not deliver its video properly..
so in agreement with the other guy you either need a new mother board or a new ps3 whichever is currently cheeper..
Alright you need to put your ps3 in what is called "safe mode". First make sure there is no disc in the ps3, then turn off the ps3 in the back(main power switch), turn that switch back on, then hold the power button in front until you hear a total of 3 beeps, then let go, the light will be red, hold the power button again and you will hear 2 beep then a quick double beep, let go of power button and the light should stay green. A menu will appear, try all option working your way up from option 1 until it works. If you go through all 6 option and you are still having issues call 1-800-345-7669 to have your ps3 serviced
try connecting the ps3 to the HDMI only, now when the ps3 is off and all but the single red light is on rest your finger on the on button for about 8 seconds, as soon as you touch it it will turn on but just wait a bit and you'll here the a second beep- this should reset your ps3's video output settings. Try it out, it works for me when i go back and forth from av to HDMI.
