Question about HP OfficeJet 6210 All-In-One InkJet Printer
What is the most likely cause of the error message whenever I attempt scanning or simply lifting the scanner cover?
I too am getting this message "Scanner Failure, turn off then on" when i am doing standalone copying. i.e. placing something in the scanner glass and pressing the copy button. turning off and back on does nothing as does unplugging and plugging back in the printer/scanner. Good thing I opted for best buys extended warrenty as i beleive it is soon to be their problem.

Option one: Scan using Windows Fax and Scan
Click the Windows icon ( ), click Programs , and then click Windows Fax and Scan .
NOTE: The Windows Fax and Scan option is available in the Business, Ultimate, and Enterprise editions of Windows Vista. If you have the Home Basic or Home Premium edition of Windows Vista, skip to Option two:
Scan using Paint .
Click New scan .
Click File , and then click Scan .
Option two: Scan using Paint
Click the Windows icon ( ), click Programs , and then click Accessories .
Click Paint .
Click File , and then click From Scanner or Camera .
Click Scan .
The drivers in the Windows Vista operating system do not support button press functionality on the product.

Using paint worked for me. I got this from HP.

You have to drive the Scanning from the HP image zone icon on your desktop. This should download automatically with the software. There is a 'Transfer images from Scanner' option on the left hand side and this should allow you to scan. It worked for me.

After hours of trying things.I found this and it worked. The scanner button doesn't work, but at least I can scan.
To scan a picture using Windows Photo Gallery
Before you begin, make sure that you've installed your scanner on the computer and that the scanner is turned on.
