Canon ZR 50 - pause / record button does not work

My camcorder's pause /record button isn't working. I can't find a diagram on how to disassemble it and get the button off. Can anyone tell me where I can find an exploding diagram or directions on how to disassemble? Thanks.

DId you check the second Battery. The small circle one under the main battery? That was the case with mine. The pause, rec button wouldnt work until i replaced the small circle battery.

Re: Canon ZR 50 - pause / record button does not work

As far as I am aware, service diagrams for Canon products are not available to the general public. They are provided to facilities that Canon has authorized to repair their products.

This is most likely due to a failed Pause / Play switch and can be repaired fairly inexpensively. However, it's not a user serviceable problem and will need to be repaired by a qualified service technician.

My name is Rick and I'm a professional repair technician with over 20 years in the business and have repaired many of these. I'm semi retired and work from home with little overhead so I can keep repair costs low. If you decide to have the camera repaired, please click HERE for a directory listing that suits your needs.

Canon MV850i has a flashing Off sign and will not pause when recording

The light ment that the button to take a still was pressed during recording without a memory card. I put in a memory card and during a video recording I pressed the stills button again. A still was placed on the card and the flashing light was gone and the camcorder worked as it should.

Wont record anything to MiniDV tape and A/D randomly working

Sorry about delayed reply as I just saw it.

Its known problem of ccd imager in Canon ZR85 camcorder and ccd imager needs to be replaced.

Canon will repair your camcorder free of cost as per announced scheme for ccd imager issue.

Click Canon CCD Advisory for details, how to get free repair.

Regarding can't see picture or time code in playback, it is problem of dirty / clogged video heads. Use good quality video head cleaning cassette to clean heads and hope camera will show playback picture.

Good luck.

Connecting zr85 to vcr to record vhs tape to dv or sd card

I also have a Canon ZR-- left of the lens and the built-in microphones, there is a small panel that opens to reveal several ports. The middle yellow one is the AV In/Out. You can plug in the cable that came with your camera. One end looks like a microphone plug, the other has 3 RCA type plugs- red, white and yellow. These get plugged into your VCR's OUT plugs on the back of the VCR. Place a tape in the camcorder, open the LCD panel and push the REC PAUSE button. On the VCR, press the Play button. When the tape reaches the point you want to begin recording, press the camcorder's Play/Pause button. When you want to stop recording, press the Stop button on the camcorder.
This is also detailed on page 82 of your manual, manuals are available online at Your specific manual is at:
Hope this helps.

ZR50 Rec/Pause button not working

I encountered the same problem with the Canon REC/Pause switch was intermittent. To solve the problem I used a high pressure air hose and blasted the switch with air. It cleaned the contacts of the switch without having to take it apart.
