I also have the smelly, black gasket problem. I am so very disappointed in this machine - I wanted one of these so bad and it does not live up to my expectations. Now, less than 2 years old, it refuses to do the fast spin after the wash cycle and after the rinse cycle. At the end of every load, I have to run the spin cycle. An appliance repair person watched the spin only setting as it worked fine, told me I needed to not mix types of fabrics, charged me 78 bucks and left. Now today I'm getting madder and madder with each carefully sorted load! He'll be back on his dime. But it is so annoying to have to use the extra step, extra time, extra power. What a poorly designed machine. I will never buy another one (so glad I didn't get the dryer) and will make sure any one I know looking to buy an appliance will not buy a Frigidaire.

Re: does not do fast spin
Ok that's not true its one of the best machines on the market it just has a problem first clean the gasket with bleach the appliance repair person didn't know what he was talking about im a tech and we will get it fixed ok its a a good machine i have one my self no problems for ten years now they have a new door gasket now with holes in it to drain the excess water out and prevent the black mold problem he should have replaced it just to lazy to do his job and mixing loads ain't got nothing to do with it now it wont spin real small loads properly because the tacho generator cant sense the balance but the normal loads spin fine is the washer draining all the way before spin or is water still left in the washer before spin it may take a few conversations for us to get it fixed but we will. leave the door ajar after washing to pre vent the mold

The bearing in the drum has failed and it's always noiier as it spins faster as there is more debris being thrown around inside the hardened steel casing of the bearing. Bad news is that's a write off. Uneconomical repair. It will tear its self apart shortly, probably leaking grease into the wash and leaving black marks everywhere, oor the drive belt will come off, or the drum will impact the front gasket and fill the drum with smoke. Any way you look at it, it's almost certainly going to destroy a load of washing. Throw it away now before it wrecks your washing
First i hope you have cleaned out your filter. For the smell: Switch from liquid to powder detergent, no fabric softner, not necessary. Clean the big gasket with detergent and run a half load (without clothes of course) very hot cycle with 2 cups of vinegar only. Leave the door open whenever possible. This helps in drying out your washer and preventing mildew. Shut your wall water valve after your wash
try using Baking Powder to neutralise the odor. Maytag had a similar problem once. their gasket(door boot) was gray in color and reacted with some kind of bacteria then they change it to a black rubber compound and the problem went away.
Hi Qqiustin. There are couple of solution for this, you can try that before attempt to change door gasket.1- Run machine empty on Cotton 95C cycle, while it's intaking water add 300ml of bleach.(It could produce some foam but let it go & finish it's cycle)That progress will clean your machine & mould on the door gasket should get disappeared.Alternatively you can try EXIT MOULD or likely products on the super market sells.Follow the instruction.Goodluck.Thanks.
If your gaskets are bad, the machine will not rotate. Can you move it by hand? If not then have you checked the gasket in the back of machine that comes in contact with the hand wheel? If it is making contact, this is what runs the machine and both the little black gasket and the hand wheel will spin when you rotate by hand. If the hand wheel is free spinning then it may need oiled. If you have a manual, try oiling the complete machine according to manual.
I had a similar problem on my "93 Ford probe. The engine idled pretty rough with shakes, Turned out to be a head gasket leaking engine coolant into the cylinder during low rpm's. At fast rpm's it was fine becuase the internal cylinder pressure was greater than the hot coolant pressure & would prevent the coolant from leaking in.
A friend has the same problem with his "94 Blazer 4.3 L, throttle body injection, manual tranny. He hasn't fixed it yet, It started a few weeks ago & is getting worse. His gets a fast idle with hiccups which causes the engine shake. He already checked the EGR valve. He also has a severe exhaust problem, Not oilly but very gray & terrible smelly, but only when the fast idle problem happens. THis fast idle hiccup problem starts when the engine is warmed up.
your washer is a great washer BUT you Have to wipe the silly gasket all the time and leave the door open to let it vent and dry I deal with this all the time and no they dont tell you this when you buy them (they Should) but they want the sale then its your baby.I do warranty work for all the name brands and I see this on all of them good luck
