LaCie 500 d2 500 GB makes a clicking noise and will not mount on my HD. My Data Rescue II disk does not recognize this drive. I've used firewire 400 cable and firewire 800 cable in two different macintosh tower without any luck.

My Lacie was working without a glitch for a year, and then it started making a clicking noise and wasn't being recognized by my imac G5. Any solutions out there?

  • JotaS Jan 16, 2009

HD has a soft clicking sound and does not show on the desktop. I have tried all the steps from the LaCie website without success. The disk appears as an "Unknown Device" in System profiler. The thing I haven't done is changing the external cable supply for don't have another lacie one. Do these cables are sold separately?

iMac OS X 10.5.6 Build 9G55 with latest Lacie firmware (bridge firmware v1.02)

Worked fine until a few days ago. Now "ticks" but does nothing else.

Cannot be seen on desktop or in disk utility or in Time Machine.

Drive is now essentially a doorstop.

Very unhappy with Lacie at the moment.

Tried unplugging ALL cables and rebooting computer. Still nothing.

I had this same problem. I you are experiencing this problem and you have a Mac. Go to the LaCie web site there is a firmware update for this drive. Download the firmware update application from the LaCie website, start it and follow the directions. It should fix the problem.

Best solution is to return it to were you got it from! its prob a faulty drive or you plugged it into a too high voltage and it has blew the drive (if u did ur warranty is VOID)

Power mac g5. Although I show Ethernet connected, i can't get network

You've established that you have a working physical connection. But your network addressing and routing is apparently not setting up.
The usual configuration is to set your Mac to "Using DHCP" and your router or other network interface to provide DHCP addressing. (If the address that shows up in the window on your Mac starts with "169..." it's a bogus address that means your DHCP isn't coming through.)
The most likely culprit here is your router. Take your router out of the chain or command entirely and plug your Mac directly into your network interface (assuming they are not the same box) and see if things suddenly start to work. If so, follow the configuration instructions that came with your router until you get a working connection through it.

Why does my desktop pro keeps shutting down unexpectedly

Just to clarify a G5 is not a Pro or "desktop Pro" (Mac Pro is an Intel based machine). Yours is a "Power Mac". Install a temp monitoring app to see the temperature (mainly the CPU temps). Mine runs around 50 to 60 Celsius and never more than 72. If the temps run to high she will shut down. G5 are great machines but it's not rare for them to go bad. Power supply issues and liquid coolant leaks are well know. Fans controllers have stopped working (the fans them selves are usually OK).

My lacie mounts on the g5 but when i click it, it doesn't open.

It would be a good idea to look at the Mac system log so from a v bad memory Apple (top laft hand corner) then about this Mac then System Profiler then Logs and take a look and see what errors you are getting. If this doesnt give you any clues my advice with external disk problems is where possible to remove the disk from the enclosure and install it in the Mac. if you can, THis will eliminate the USB cable, interface, and box. See if it mounts then. If it does run disk utility to double check it but get your data off first onto the Mac. Hope this helps....Mark

Power PC G5 Dual 2.5 sudden shutdown and no reboot

In G5 always the cover should be closed properly if not it will start the fan very fast like a blower and the red leds will be on showing that the heat is over so please check that the cover is closed and locked from behind so itworks smooth and the power supply is standard or normal
u should always use genune parts with mac..
