You can not on this set. The plastic chassis comes off easily but the mirror will not be protected. Leave it together and transport without tilting or laying down. Home Depot or similar will let you rent a pick up for $20. Well worth it.

I have a kp-61hs3o rear projection HDTV. It is too tall to fit in the basement. Somebody told me I can lift the top half with the screen off the base (where componets are) by just undoing the screws. Is...

You can lift the top section away from the electronics. There are quite a few screws!
It will not affect the allignment and makes it easier to move and clean the mirror.

Sony kp-53xbr45 please let me know step by step how to enter convergence service thank you

To enter into the convergence service of your sony, follow the steps below;
  1. Press "Menu" on the remote control. Use the up- or down-arrow button to move the cursor to "Setup" and then press "Return."
  2. Use the up or down arrow to move the cursor to "Convergence" and press "Return." This will bring up the convergence-adjustment screen.
  3. Press the up or down arrow to move the cursor to the line you want to adjust (either vertical or horizontal for red and blue) and press "Return."
  4. Press the up or down arrow again to move that line until it converges with the center green line and press "Return."
  5. Repeat to adjust the other lines until all three lines converge and are seen as a white cross.
  6. Press "Menu" to exit the convergence menu and return to the original screen.
You can as well follow these steps;
  1. Press the "Power" button to turn your TV on.
  2. Wait at least 30 minutes before you adjust the convergence in your television. This allows your TV ample time to warm up before you make the adjustment.
  3. Turn your TV to a cable channel or to an antenna channel with a picture that you can see. A music channel with a static shot of music notes isn't the kind of picture you need. Instead, look for a picture like what you would see on a movie, sitcom or drama.
  4. Press the "Flash Focus" button located in the front panel on your TV. You may need to open a hidden compartment on the front of your TV to access this button. The convergence will repair itself automatically after you hit this button. It may take several minutes.
Any of the two processes are detailed steps on how to enter your convergence service.

Take care

Where can I get a replacement plactic screen cover

This set has 3 screens---the outer one is really only for glare--clear plexigalss--no longer available from Sony.

Sony 4-070-602-01
SCREEN, FRESNEL Sony 4-064-343-11
SCREEN, LENTICULAR Sony 4-058-894-11
SCREEN, PROTECTION (CONTRAST)Outer one is (Contrast) the other two inner ones are showing as available and about 180 each.

You would have to either have someone dismantle or do it yourself---most of these sets you have to remove all three screens from the rear of the set---then remove the outer contrast one if it is scratched or cracked--

If you get it out and measure it: It is possible you may be able to find a company who can cut you a plexi-glass piece to replace it with--lots of work to do this and you have to use extreme care when you remove the two inner screens--easy to damage them---Usually the inner two are taped along all the edges to keep dust etc from getting between them and the front one is a short distance forward of them.

The front protective screen is really only there for glare and to protect the inner screens from damage---I have seen people who had a cracked outer one just dismantle and remove that one---put the others back and use the set that way---have to be careful as the inner screens are easy to scratch or damage with the outer one removed.

Also---I have seen several where someone removed the outer one and got a piece of plexi glass big enough to put on the outside of the front of the set---secured all around the edges with velcro--does not look as good as the original but prevents glare and protects the inner screens.

If this told you something you did not know or helped you rate this solution as I do this here for free.

We have a KP-51HW40 Sony that we would like to move to another state that is 1000 miles away. People tell us that the move will ruin the tv which works perfectly right now. How do we transport the tv. No...

There is no problem in moving your set as long as the ride is not too bumpy,and i mean gravel roads with potholes.You should move it standing up though and if you can cushion the floor underneath the set it would be even better.Wrap it in plastic if there`s gonna be humidity and cold and let it warm up once it`s there.have a good trip.

Sony kp-43ht20 geometry issue.

You may be setting your self up for a major headache. Trying to set convergence requires a professional pattern generator. There are also multiple phase adjustments to prevent linear drift of settings. Please spare yourself, take unit to a professional service!

Hi Ross, This repair is quite easy, But before I tell you how to fix the problem I need to know have you gone in to the user menu & tried adjusting the convergence This will save time & expense for you ? If you havent then try this first it may sort it out without needing to dismantle the set. Let me know how you get on by either replying to this post or let me know via email Chris..
