Once installed Asus A8N SLi will not boot up in Vista 64 bit

I have invested in Vista home premium 64 bit for my sons computer. He has Asus A8N Sli motherboard sata 200GB HHD 2GB Memory 256mb graphics card PCI-E. Windows installs from a clean partition but once restarted throws up the safe mode options for sart up but will not start normally. Windows offers a solution to possible problems on install but will not complete download and install?

I am trying to update my Windows XP 32 bit, using the Vista Ultimate Upgrade. The Vista Upgrade advisor gave me the green light, prior to running the upgrade. When it gets to the final step of the process I get the blue screen and then have to reboot. Once I reboot, the only option to get it to function is to run the earlier version of Windows. Once XP boots up it tells me that my version of windows can't be upgraded. I am considering trying a clean install. I checked my hard drive and the files for the upgrade are all there, but now every time I restart I Ihave to select the earlier version, which is getting anoying. When I check My Computer/properties it still shows that I am running Windows XP SP3. The only other option I am considering is to try to run the XP Disc again and see if it will run in repair mode. Any suggestions regarding how to resolve this will be greatly appreciated.

Make sure that you have the lastest Firmware installed in your BIOS.

Also run Windows Vista Upgrade Wizard before installing Vista to check for compatability.

Recherche drivers asus a8n-sli premium compatible windows 7 pc qui date de 4 ans qui etait sous xp

From the manufacturer's web-site:

http://usa.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=nbulqxniNmzf0mH1

I see device-drivers for Windows Vista,
but I do *NOT* see device-drivers for Windows 7.

Try using the drivers for Windows Vista.

From the Asus support site.

If you installed total 4GB memory, the system will detect less than 4GB of total memory because of address space allocation for other critical functions, such as:

- System BIOS (including motherboard, add-on cards, etc..)
- Motherboards resources
- Memory mapped I/O
- configuration for AGP/PCI-Ex/PCI
- Other memory allocations for PCI devices

Different onboard devices and different add-on cards (devices) will result of different total memory size.
e.g. more PCI cards installed will require more memory resources, resulting of less memory free for other uses.

On a SLI system, since PCI-Ex graphic cards will occupy around 256MB, another 256MB will be occupied after you install a 2nd PCI-Ex graphic card. Hence, 2.75GB memory left only if two SLI cards installed on A8N-SLI Premium while 3.0GB memory left with one graphic card without other add-on devices.

This limitation applies to most chipsets & Microsoft Windows 32-bit version operating systems.

If you install Windows 32-bit version operating system, we recommend that you install less than 3GB of total memory. If more than 3GB memory is required for your system, then below two conditions must be met: 1. The memory controller which supports memory swap functionality is used. Chipsets later than Intel 975X, 955X, Nvidia NF4 SLI Intel Edition, Nvidia NF4 SLI X16, and AMD K8 CPU architecture support memory swap function. 2. Windows 64-bit OS which can address more than 4GB memory.

My m2n32-sli premium vista edition motherboard refuses to boot up when i put 6 gbs of memory. How do i solve this issue?

Hi iimarceloii, did you check the FAQ section on Asus web site?
Using Vista 32bit/64bit edition or win XP;
http://support.asus.com/faq/faq.aspx?SLanguage=en-us&model=M2N32-SLI%20Premium%20VISTA%20Edition&os=24
Basically Asus wants you to use 2GB of memory until windows has been completely installed & completely updated before you can add more memory to the system.
Than you can increase your memory to 6BG. To see all the FAQ's from Asus, click on this link; http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?SLanguage=en-us
Type: M2N32-SLI into the search window & click the arrow button.

Good luck iimarceloii!

ASUS A8N-SLI memory issues

imondeau, do you still have you're manual for the ASUS A8N-SLI Premium? Please turn to page 2-12 & 2-13.
Need the manual? Click the link below & download it.
http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?modelname=A8N-SLI%20Premium&SLanguage=en-us
The QVL; Qualified Venders List, shows all the tested memory for this board. Edge memory is not supported. This is why the Edge memory only runs by it's self. Once you add the corsair memory they clash because they are not compatible working together in this Asus board. Both sets of memory could work in another board. (Maybe)! What is also needed is if the corsair & edge DIMMs are SS = Single sided or DS = Double sided. How many chips on the corsair? How many chips on the Edge?
They must have the same total chips each each DIMM.

Edge does not sell memory compatible for the
Asus A8N-SLI Premium.
See this for you're self. Click on this link:

Asus A8N sli Premium - sli problems

I went through your bios manual three times & did not come across a setting that gives you the option as you listed above.
What I did come across & triple checked your Manual Pg. 2-28 section 14. Asus EZ selector card connector (144-pin SLI_CON.
When using two PCIE SLI cards make sure the card is seated correctly & set for Dual Video Cards. (extreamly important).
Pg. 4-34, section 4.4.9 SLI mode Recommend kepping to Auto. Than the Bios detects the setting of theSLI selector card.
Refering to the sentance above the manual recommends all settings be set to Auto. Your Bios will do the rest. If for unknown reason you no longer have your manual you can download it from Asus. You'll need to fill in the 3 windows under, Please Select the Product.
