Ink tank lamps - the magenta horror

The problem I’m facing is my printer is flashing orange because it keeps getting an ink tank error which states.

‘Ink tank errors have occurred. Open the printers cover and replace the ink tanks on which ink lamps are off'

this keeps happening and it’s because of the Magenta, the ink tank isn't even empty maybe quarter of the ink has been used. So I unclick it and push it back in making the tank lamp light up again. However as soon as I close the lid the printer light flashes orange again and I get the same error again and it keeps continuing in the same pattern.

Any help would be greatly appreciated because I have a lot of work print out and stupid thing won’t let me do anything.

I'm having the exact same problem. I left school for a month and turned off my printer during that time period. When I returned, it told me to replace those cartridges whose lamps were unlit. At the time, the black cartridge was the only one. Replaced the black, but then found that the magenta was unlit (though full), and I therefor cannot print at all. I tried compleetly re-installing the printer head and all cartridges, as well as printing without the magenta cartridge. I have the same perpetual issue of the light turning on when I press it in, but turning off once the lid is closed and printing is attempted. Help!

  • vantage Feb 03, 2008

I have the same problem with the same ink tank.

  • Mickeyelle Feb 04, 2008

I also have this problem with the magenta cartridge. Added to that is the black cartridge (PGBK) has the red light flashing and will not stay on no matter what I do.

  • thatfunnyguy Feb 07, 2008

I have this exact same problem with the magenta ink tank on my MP530.

Take it out, push it in, light goes on, error comes back immediately, light is off when I open up case again.

Using information from a microchip in an ink tank to force the printer
to have a software error is horrible. I can't print anything, and I'm
betting that there's nothing physically wrong with the printer or the
    ink tank.

They use the chips in the ink tanks to force you to buy a new tank
rather than refilling it, I wonder if this is related to that "feature"?

  • Anonymous Feb 09, 2008

Call Canon, it's a chip error, they should replace it! They did mine!

  • Anonymous Feb 13, 2008

Exactly the same problem and the magenta tank as well.

  • turbo4132000 Feb 15, 2008

I had the same problem with my 4300 but it was the yellow tank light that kept flashing, not the magenta. I had only bought it two weeks prior to this fault developing so I was not exactly a happy chappie! Eventually, after repeatedly clicking the yellow tank back into position, it did manage to work but after a couple of weeks of the same routine, I got cheesed off and returned the whole printer back to the place of purchase. I've now got another one and I'm glad to say it's working faultlessly - for now that is!

  • Guest231 Feb 27, 2008

I have the same problem with my yellow cartridge and its getting really frustrating! Each time i close the cover the orange light flashes, and then when i open up the cover, my yellow cartridge has no red light. So when i re-install it in the light comes back on, but does the same and dissapears each time i close the cover and open it again.

Has anyone solved the problem? or might know why its doing this? I just got this printer as well.. so I'm not too happy about that.

  • Collison Mar 08, 2008

I have experienced the same problem with the yellow cartridge. Snap it back in and the light comes on. Close the lid and you get the same error message. I've tried this 8 times. The tank is full, the yellow ink blotches a kleenex tissue but each time after the lid is closed, the light goes out. This happens time after time. Very perplexing.

  • Richard O Apr 02, 2008

I have been exactly the same problem as described by other Canon Pixma IP4300 users. Yellow tank full of ink, yet warning light flashes. Re-set the cartridge, red light goes on. Close the top, red light goes off and warning light comes back on. Maddening! This is a new printer with the original yellow cartridge. I had been very pleased with the printer until this problem occured.

    Horrible!!

I am getting mad! If anybody has a solution to this annoying problem, please let me know!

  • CameraJan May 27, 2008

All tank-lights are burning, except the magenta one. This tank is 50% full however. When I take the tank out and put it back again, the light goes on. All other tanks are about 100% full, yet when checking the inkt-level the seem completely emty! I use original cartidges and orginal Canon photopaper. My printer is less then one year old. Shoud I go back to the store with it?

Tank absorber full and lights blinking

The POWER Lamp Flashes Orange Eight flashes: Waste ink tank almost full
The printer has a built-in waste ink tank for the ink used during print head cleaning. Eight flashes indicates that the waste ink tank is nearly full. Press the RESUME/CANCEL button to cancel the error so you can continue printing. Before the waste ink tank becomes completely full, contact a Canon service representative.

Note
Canon recommends that you call for service as soon as this error occurs. Once the waste ink tank becomes completely full, printing will no longer be possible.
