Unless there are some other connectors that may be used, i would think that the issue would be resolvable thru the system settings menu, there may be a speaker arrangement setting somewhere in the menus. The Sub is a .1 setting like 5.1 or 7.1, perhaps even 2.1 where the beginning number is the speaker channels and .1 is the sub. I would think with the sub being on a mono channel it woul/should work with any setting. If there is any more info you could supply I will further research this issue and try to help you get the sub working.

Connect both speaker outputs from you amplifier to the left and right inputs on your sub woofer. Connect your normal speakers to these connections on the sub woofer.

YAMAHA AV receiver RX-V861 I have the message 'Vol-fix' appearing on Zone 2 and no sound. This was working fine until then

Setting the RX-V861 remote control to operate Zone 2:
  1. Using a ballpoint pen or similar object and press the [CODE SET] button RX-V861 remote control. The[TRANSMIT INDICATOR]on the remote should flash twice.
  2. Using the [NUMERICAL KEY PAD] on the remote and key in 9992, the [TRANSMIT INDICATOR] should flash.
Assigning the receivers internal amp for Zone 2:
  1. Set the remote control selector to [AMP]. (Located to the right of the volume buttons on the Remote.).
  2. Press the [SET MENU]button on the remote control.
  3. Arrow down to Manual Setup and press the Enter button on the remote control.
  4. Arrow to the [SOUND MENU] option and press the [ENTER] button on the remote control.
  5. Arrow to Speaker Set and press the [ENTER] button on the remote control.
  6. Arrow to the EXTRA SP ASSIGN and select ZONE2
  7. Press the [RETURN] button on the remote control to exit out and return to the Manual Setup.
NOTES: There is an option for setting the Maximum Volume and Initial Volume in the Zone Set menu.
  • Max Volume: This is an optional feature but isrecommended to prevent the accidental change in volume levels thatcould damage the speakers and receiver.
  • Initial Volume: This is also a great feature that would seamlessly start the volume level for the second or third zone at the desired level.
We do not recommend using any Speaker Selector boxes to enable more than the recommended number of speakers per terminal.
Controlling Zone 2 using the RX-V861 remote control:
  1. If the Main Zone on the receiver is on, press the [POWER BUTTON]down and while holding that button down press the [PHONO]/[**] button on the remote. The [TRANSMIT INDICATOR] will light up.
  2. You will not be able to use the following buttons on the remote: (Pressing any other button will cause the remote to exit Zone 2 mode. [POWER], [STANDBY], [VOLUME], [MUTE] and the [INPUT SELECTOR] buttons [DVD], [CD], etc.)

See page 3 at manual below. It seems like coaxial cable with RCA ends.

Subwoofer.......

Please check your model number, I can not find it on the JVC service website.

This is a powered sub-woofer I think. You need to have a thick black cord that connects the sub to the head unit. Then the satellite speakers get connected to the speaker jacks on the sub-woofer box. The sub-woofer should also be plugged into an A/C outlet on the wall.

The speaker outputs are labeled right there where you connect the speaker wires. You should see a red and black connector for each speaker and they are labeled "front right" "front left" "center" "rear right" "rear left".

If you do not have the thick black cord you need to connect the head unit with the sub-woofer, you can not use this system.

If you look at the head unit and give me the model number on it, I may be able to find the part you need. But I must have a good model number to work with, preferably from the head unit.

You need to take apart tthe sub woofer and check the connection to bass speaker for continuity. It sounds like an internal broken connection to speaker on sub woofer unit.

Go to the following website www.servicemanuals.net where you can get the service manual for $17.00, unbelieveable, don't you think? The service manual should help you sort out your hookup problems. Good luck.
