Re: mother board

Changing the chipset is NOT feasible; you'd have a VERY difficult time finding the proper chips to replace the damaged ones, and removing / replacing a surface-mounted chipset is usually done with specialized equipment. The costs of repair would be prohibitive...

The best advice I can give you is to obtain another motherboard, unless you have unlimited funds available, and can wait while the defective board is being repaired, all of which requires that you first obtain a replacement chipset, which would be difficult, given the age of your motherboard...

Wish I had better news for you, but even if you did replace the defective chip(S) on that motherboard, it is still an old board, and the odds are that some other component will fail before too long, which would make all of your efforts getting the m'board repaired just a huge waste of time and money.

Best of luck to you; let us know what you decide to do...

Re: mother board

No the chipset is something that not even an experienced tech with the proper tools want to try.
you will need the same replacement board for windows to be happy. if you change board models you'll have to reload windows.

Mother Board

if it has 2 video cards or had 2 might be disabled in bios. if not and it does not boot at all then it could be CPU Powersupply or RAM, i would start with removing RAM and see if it beeps if it does Power Supply migh be ok, put one stick of RAM back in snd see if it boots swap RAM Slots and stic around to make sure its not a RAM Problem. if still no video and just spinning fans its Trial anf error of the CPU and Power Supply i know it **** but if you have a PoSupply tester that would rule that out. if you are savy enough to remove CPU look for burnning and smell for Burn. Good Luck

Sound quality

The sound quality built in to most mother boards is not the best quality. It is a compromise. The best solution is to install a high quality sound card in an available slot.

For video quality, it is the same issue when it comes to high quality video.

Before installing the new sound card, uninstall the existing sound drivers and sound software for the built in sound as necessary. You may have to go in to the BIOS set-up and dissable the mother board's built in sound. It is best to consult the instructions for *********** board to know the details for the particular mother board. You should contact the dealer for your computer to have proper details.

Turn off the computer, and disconnect the AC cord. Open the case, and install the new sound card according to the instructions that come with it.

When the computer re-starts, it should tell you that it found new hardware. Go through the installation procedure. There will be drivers and some software and drivers that must be installed.

If you are not used to this type of procedure, it would be best for you to take the computer to a computer service place and have them do the installation for you.
