Question about Philips Magnavox 51MP392H Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

Liquid under the protective screen

My 2 yr old thought he could clean the tv while no one was watching and sprayed windex on the screen. Now it appears to have the liquid lodged underneath the protective screen and I have no idea what to do. Is there a way to take the screen off and clean it? I am unsure of the model but it is a 52" Magnavox HDTV rear projection flat screen. The liquid is a wavy pattern on the bottom 3-5 inches of the screen.

My daughter wasted yogurt on the protective screen. My other daughter wiped it off with a wet towel. Now there is a big smudge. What can I do?

Windex is not the best cleaner. Bed and Bath Beyond has a very good NON-Streak class cleaner that I tell my customers to use. The best solution is NOT to Spray directly onto the TV Screen. Remember the glass is only delivering the picture from an RGB projection unit sitting inside the enclosure. It is not the electronic projector and the screen is separate. It can be replaced if damaged; however I believe it is only streaked and needs proper cleansing. If you get the new cleaner, spray the solution onto a soft cloth and wipe the exterior screen. Promptly wipe it dry and if you need to do this a few times, eventually you will get the glass clear and enjoy the show.

Son sprayed cleaner on tv.

I have not a clue what to tell you, but doubt the cleaner is the cause of this. In any case the TV is so old you will not be able to get parts.

How do i clean outside hitachi prejection tv screen.

Using a lint free cloth, such as a diaper, and windex (no ammonia), spray the cloth to dampen it and using a swirling motion wipe the screen. Finish with a dry lint free cloth. Never use paper towels, and never spray the screen as the liquid can migrate between the different sections of the screen. Let me know if you need more help.

Liquid under screen on mitsudishi dlp tv

With a conventional projection type screen on CRT type televisions this is not a problem, but with the newer DLP type screens the fiber of the Fresnal screen acts like a spounge and soaks up any liquid introduced. If you try to clean it it will smear and make it worse. You can remove the screen assy an clean it with Windex but allow it to dry properly.I do not see a problem with cleaning this screen, but make sure you put the screens back the way they were.I must also note that it is no easy task removing this particular screen assy.Good luck

Tv and gum

get a bottle of canned air, about 10 bucks. hold it upside down, and spray the liquid on the gum(despite what the directions tell you to do). gently pell off from one side of the gum, constantly spraying underneath the gum so it stays frozen. follow up with windex, or a normal LCD screen cleaner. Be careful not to get the liquid on your skin, as it can cause 3rd degree burns, and in worst cases, FROSTBITE. Trust me I know(1 Freshmen + 1 bottle canned air X 1 senior = pain for both parties) What this does, is freeze the sugar molecules in the gum from contracting when it is pulled by freezing them to a near sub zero temperature.

Liquid leaked into tv

Hi Tracy,
I have the sweetest grandchildren and tey are always willing to help also, so we have to love the children for all their wonderful help. ( NOT !!! ...lol ) But lets not send your son to the adoption web sight just yet. I'll start by letting you know ( in a sigh of releif for you ) that your tv is not damaged forever, although, when the windex drys, you will probably see a dirt stain on the screen, since the windex probably did it's job and cleaned the dirt off, unfortunatly the residue is between the screens. You have 2 layer of plastic screens for your TV. One is a lexan shield and the other is a riffled substance plastic. To seperate the two of them, you need to take the front of the TV off, normally by removing screws from the inside of the TV ( this can be a tricky job and I really suggest you have a pro do it if you haven't worked on TV's in the past ). If you do it, be extra careful not to break the screen or sheild after removing as they can get a bit pricey. When you take them out, they will seperate ( one lays on top of the other, no real trick to them ) and then just grab your windex ( the remains of the bottle that your son left you ) and clean them like you would glass. Of course after you clean the screens, replace them in the oppisite proceedure of taking them apart and wella, all is ok again and junior remians a loving and helpful son. smiling. I hope this helped. Nice day.

Got wet

Most likely he sprayed the screen, and the fluid dripped down onto the board where the pushbuttons are. The pushbuttons them became contaminated and shorted out inside. Usually, the damage done will not be reversed by drying the set out. He should not feel bad, though, because we see adults doing that all the time. The TV has not "had it", since it is quite easy to correct. The board should be cleaned and any defective pushbuttons replaced by a qualified tech.
