Computer doesn't recognize Zen V

I have a Zen V, it works fine. But my fiance just got a Zen V and the computer doesn't recognize that his is plugged into the USB drive. We've registered it, we've reinstalled the software heaven knows how many times. I'm at a loss. We can't put music on it, it won't even charge when it's plugged in.

It informs me that it's a Creative Zen, and that's about it. Won't charge, and Windows XP does not even recognize the when it's plugged in. I've tried to reset the firmware, but I can't get it to communicate with Windows. Any ideas?

My (2) Zen V Plus are not recognized by media explorer when connected to usb port. I've had a 2 GB model that worked fine for a long time, then suddenly stopped being recognized. I thought it was time for a new one, so I bought a refurbished 4 GB but it has the same problem. Maybe a computer problem? But no other issues on my computer.

I have the same problem- computer runs windows vista, and won't recognize the player is plugged in. I tried reloading the software too, about 3 hours worth of trouble for no results.

I got a "Class A" refurbished Zen V .... looks awsome, but neither my Sony Vaio laptop nor my desktop will recognize the device. Both 'puters are running XP Service Pack 2 and I reverted to WMP 10 from 11. Nothing works to get the Zen up and running. My iPod Touch and Sansa work fine.

  • Anonymous Feb 23, 2009

at first, my zen worked with my windows xp computers, but refused completely to show up in my vista pc. now however, its the other way around, it does not show up in xp, but it does show up in vista! :O
its the same zen, i have not updated or in any way modified the firmware, nor the computers either. this is just weird.

The same thing happened to me, but my expert dad fixed it. Just load the driver or update it. I don't know how to, and it's was confusing when he explianed it, but search on the Internet if you need to know how.

I agree with Fredy. I've tried to mod the firmware, without any success. Windows see the device as an external hard drive, and it won't even show up in the device manager, which means it's a paper weight. You may want to contact creative, because they have a warranty for the device. Best wishes!

Good luck!

I actually have the same problem. What's really weird is that it wont work on my desktop, but when I plug it into my laptop, it recognizes it. It's ashame because I have my whole music library on the desktop.

Computer stopped recognizing USB cord from Zen sleek photo

The first problem is probably a software incompatibility between Creative's software and Windows Media Player version 11. The second problem is possibly a need to replace the battery. 3rd party batteries are about 20 dollars now.

If your Zen V is dead, wont respond to anything, try this, plug it in to the computer, hold the power switch in the on position, THEN trigger the reset button, worked like a charm for mine, I had thought it a lost cause."

Computer wont recognize mp3 player

Hmmm when you plug it in to put music on it do you use the sync manager thing? thats what i use and sometimes it says theres no player connected even though there is, so i just keep plugging and unplugging until it works.. but then if that doesnt work i just go to  "Zen v series media explorer" it like lets you upload music there too.. hope you find something that works!
