I have a Technics stereo integrated amplifier SU G75. The cooling fan began making chirping noises then stopped. Now every time I turn the stereo on I get a overload message. Could it be the cooling fan shorted out or do I have a bigger problem?

It chirped because the bearings were worn out, then it froze up and isn't moving any air. Get it replaced. DO NOT run the unit if it keeps overloading or you will have a bigger problem.

If the receiver works at low volume, but goes into OVERLOAD and shuts down at higher volume, it means you are player the unit too long and too loud. Try yo keep the volume down to a reasonable volume.
I have the same problem..it will be required to remove the board and resolder "cold " solderings... None of above solutions have been helpful, but "you get what you paid for"..and I completely disagree...even if required, remove ALL audio power managing circuitry and replace this expensive original design with TI´s Integrated chips..using PWM technology..unless you want to go back to L6, ot Kts tubes..
make sure there is nothing within several inches of it to start off. if need be, use a small house fan pointed at the amp to help cool it, if all else fails and/or you don't want to hear the noise from the big fan; get a computer fan the same size as the one in the case. connect it in place of the fan that does not work(may have to cut/splice the wires). that should work. oh, check the voltage and whether the fan is AC or DC from the stereo. this makes a huge difference!!!! if the fan says "DC" DO NOT CONNECT AN AC FAN TO IT!!! the fan will short and BLOW UP!!!
