Hi, To restore a missing or corrupt ntfs.sys file you must have the Windows XP CD and follow the below steps.
Insert the Windows XP CD into the computer and restart the computer. As the computer is starting make sure to press a key to boot from the CD. In the Windows XP setup screen press the 'R' key to run the Windows Recovery Console. If prompted enter the number of Windows installation you're repairing. At the command prompt type the below command.
copy x:\i386\ntfs.sys c:\windows\system32\drivers
* In the above example you would replace x: with the letter of your CD-ROM drive. Many computers have the CD-ROM drive configured as the D: drive.
If ntfs.sys is still on the computer you'll be prompted if you wish to overwrite the file. If prompted, press the Y key for Yes to overwrite the file. Once the file has been successfully copied remove the CD and reboot your computer.
Do NOT use an OEM "Recovery Disc". Only a valid Windows XP media will work or a disc from the OEM that says "Operating System" may sometimes work depending on how the manufacturer labeled the CD.
Hope this helps.
Let me know if you need more information
Thanks
You will need another computer that can burn CD's, and obviously a blank disk
Follow THIS LINK and read the article/reviews on the top Windows password recovery applications. Once you choose the one that's best for you, download and install it on Comp #2, follow the instructions and burn the .iso file to a disc.
Access the BIOS on Comp#1 (the one you can't login to) and set the boot order so that the CD/DVD-RW drive is first. Insert the CD you made, and reboot Comp#1. The CD will automatically do it's thing.
hey rose, I'm afraid a normal user won't be able to hook up those old drives to eee. However, you do not need a cd-rom to install the printer drivers. Just download them from lexmark.com homepage and install them from your hard disk! =) Here's a direct link to the vista driver for your version: http://www.downloaddelivery.com/downloads/cpd/cjr2400EN.exe
well, you will need a windows XP cd and a valid product code. you will also need either a USB cd rom, or one of those ide to usb kits sold on ebay (make sure it comes with the molex power adapter), and a standard IDE cdrom drive. connect the usb drive to the eee pc and insert the xp disc, restart and boot to the xp disc and install xp that way.
I have the linux version, not sure if you have the windows version or if it really matters. If you are looking to "reformat", you can go with the other suggestions with the USB stick. However, if you are reformatting to get back to the default settings, power on the computer and immediately hold F9. This will bring you to a screen that gives you the option to "restore factory defaults". You will lose all your previous settings, but if you were reformatting anyway, that's probably not a big concern.
