Question about Amplifiers & Preamps

1 Answer

Sound varies This is a 3400 monitor series integrated amp. Upon starting cold, the sound fades in + out till it warms up. It has been doing this for a long time. I sure would like to find a solution. I originally bought this unit used and it did the same thing. So, the store gave me a new one. This one started some months later.

Re: sound varies

This usually happens due to aging of the components of the amp.... the bias isnt stable and i dont think external compensation of this effect is possible...

Kenwood amplifier A-94 makes clikkeng sound wen u first turn it on

Kenwood 94 Service Manual Stereo Integrated Amplifier Found this link, manual will cost you $5. That will help with troubleshooting. Sounds like leaking power supply capacitors, once they warm up they do not leak as much. Could also be speaker protection circuits, make sure there are no shorts in the speakers or their wiring. Find someone who knows how to use a voltmeter and a soldering gun. Be prepared to hand him/her cash and a large thank you.

Crate pa-b8350 While playing for a few minutes, it will fade out volume until you either turn a channel volume, master volume, or reset power. Neither of the 3 "fixes" mentioned above works all...

That sounds like a volume control IC that has become heat sensitive. In other words when it's cold it's normal and then when it's been on for a while it warms up and develops the fault. You can search for the faulty part by spraying it with Radio Freezer Spray. Do one part at a time. Wait for it to play up and blast it! If it goes back to normal you have found the faulty part.

Primare spa21 amplifier, Sometimes when I turn it on from standby mode only 1 speaker works till I adjust the volume then both speakers come on and the problem doesnt happen till I switch off then back...

I have not had the same problem, but you can try and reload factory setting. This can help if there is no sound or with other strange symptoms. Connect video out from amp to a TV/monitor and push menu and find the memory menu. If this help you must remember to store the new setting or else it will return to the previouse settings.

Sound only from one speaker- I have checked speakers and they are working perfectly

Most modern amps disable both channels when one has a problem. If you can update this with the model number, I can give you the most likely defects and the fixes for them. The details vary depending upon the model number. Please update this.

Yamaha AX-596 Integrated Amplifier only works when using either of the two "Pure Direct" buttons. The Bass, Treble, & Balance controls do not function. It would appear that circuit board or the circuit...

Chances are that the tone control pre-amp circuit is faulty. These days the functions are all done by a single IC. Find that and you will more than likely have found the culprit. If there are any of the controls for bass etc on the front pannel, trace the wiring back from them. If not have a look around on the PC board in area that you suspect (some boards are marked as 'tone' etc). If you see any IC's put the number into google and you might find out what each does. Keep doing it till you find one that deals with tone etc.

Display fading on AZUR 840A

Did you take the time to fill out the Warrenty Card? It's VERY important that you do when you buy ANYTHING, especially electronics. Call the store where you bought it. Ask them if they can track it (the sale) If it can be fixed under warranty, be prepared to have to ship it back to the manufacturer.

lets go for the simple things first. Make sure that the unit is not in tape monitor mode. If it is in tape monitor, you are hearing the small amount of crosstalk present in any system.

Hello, the volume pot on my NAD 1020 is shot and needs replacing. I know I can do this myself but I need to know the value of the pot. Thanks!

When you remove the pot there should be a series of numbers on it. Post those here and I'll decode them for you. These units varied based upon the serial number as well. If you can post the serial number, I will also confirm the value in the service manual for your unit. Thanks, Dan

Intermitant loss of sound on right channel

More than likely the final amp chip needs replaced, and or may be a cold solder joint on the chip amp. GOOD LUCK
