Pioneer vsx-5231 not pairing with Phillips bdp-2175 smart bluray player

have you tried to connect the Philips direct to the TV's hdmi?

Could be the resolution on the bluray is set to 1080p which may be out of range for the receiver or even the TV for that matter. If you can reset the output resolution of the bluray to 480p first, just to establish a picture then try 720P which all HD tv's and receivers can handle.

I did a quick search and could not find the resolution reset procedure for this unit. Other units will reset if you press and hold 2 or more buttons together.

My TV has a faulty audio input so DVDs have no sound Does the Samsung 1080P Home Theater System use its own speakers INSTEAD of the TV seakers ?

All Home Theater Systems (HTS) have/use their own speakers. If it didn't have speakers it wouldn't be an HTS . . . it would simply be a DVD player ;)

I can't give you any specific information about the Samsung HTS as you didn't supply a model number. 1080P is the output resolution, i.e 1080 lines, Progressive scan (= HD), not the model number.

Hope this helps.

My Phillips HTS3520 plays DVDs fine and the sound is excellent. However, it is not playing the TV channels thorugh the theatre system.

Without more data, I can only make some general suggestions.

First: Check your cables. If you are using a converter box, there must be a set of audio and video cables going from the cable box to the Home Theatre unit. These will be a yellow/white/red set of cables. Second: If these cables are plugged into "AUX1" or "AUX2" make sure this is what reads on the front of the HT unit. You already have cables going from the HT to the TV because your DVD works.

Although this sounds obvious (please forgive me-I am not underestimating you) IF your TV receiver is 6 years old or more, and you are NOT using cable or satellite, there will be nothing for your set to pick up since the conversion from analog to digital.

I have a kenwood vr-707 it gets surround sound on dvd/vcr but I can't get surround sound on just tv.

Well you have a built in decoder/surround processor that will detect a signal with the surround sound info(dvd/sat.receiver/cable converter etc.) and will then process it to the different speakers on your system. In the absence of that signal it will process it as standard stereo sound(two front speakers). You may want to look in your receiver functions/menu for simulated surround.
Hope this will help.

Unable to hear voices

unfortunately you cannot hook a dvd player to a receiver, the dvd player has to be hooked directly to the tv.

No picture

the reason you can't get a signal is the denon 1708 will not pass the 1080p, switch the DVD output res. to 1080i or 720p and it will work

Is the dish network connected to its pwn input on the SS system and did you turn the SS system to that input ?

Are you using the analog input (red and white) cables to the input from the TV to the SS System?, not from the SS box? This is not the correct setup?
