Wireless Network Key (WEP/WPA) Recovery

It frequently happens that one loses or forgets his/her wireless network key. Normally this key is cached on your computer and it connects automaticly, but what to do when you have a new computer and you can't remember the key you originally used( and you don't have access to the wireless router) ?

Instead of resetting (the password on) the router you could try and recover the key from another computer on the network which does succesfully connect to the network.

One of the tools which can do this for you is NirSoft WirelessKeyView ( It's free, safe and easy in use ... just download the right version (32 bits or 64-bits) onto the computer which does succesfully connect to the network and run it.

I don't remember my network key,so I cannot use it

Try to connect you computer with an Ethernet cord. If the Internet is working check the default gateway of the computer by typing "ipconfig" on the command prompt. Type the default gateway on the address bar. There you will see the login page for your wireless router. Check the default username and password from the router's manual and enter it. If it accept the user name and password, look for the wireless settings, password should be seen there. If not create a new one. If default user name and password doesn't work reset the router. There should be a reset button or pinhole on the back of the router. Press and hold it for 10seconds. Try again typing the default gateway on the address bar then re enter the default user name and password. If it work your router now do not have a network key (unsecured). You can create a new network key on the router's configuration page.

My acess poin is not supported by the nintendo ds

Hi rodneyde,
f you're receiving that error message we need to access the Wireless Settings Page of your Router to change some settings. Keep in mind that if we change the settings of your wireless connection other machine that is connected to the network will be disconnected due to the new settings, so take note of the settings that we will be changing.

To access your router you need to use a computer that is connected to it. Open a Browser then type192.168.0.1 or The Default username is admin and the password is password. Password is case sensitive.

Go to the Wireless Settings Page try changing the encryprion to WEP 64bit and generate aNetwork Key. Remember the network key so that if you have laptops that are connected and will lose the connection that is the password that you need to input. If WEP 64bit wont work try WEP 128bit orWPA you can also disable the Security however you network can be access by others.

Now that we already know the setting of the router then its now time to connect the Dsi to the network.

1. Go to Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection Settings of the Game

2. Search for an Access Point (SSID)

3. Select your Network (SSID), If you have an open network, just click "OK" and it should work just fine! If it's a Red Padlock, it'll prompt you for a Password or Network Key. This is the reson why we access the router.

4. Test the Connection. If you have questions put a comment here.

Rate me if this helps so I can hep others. Thanks for using Fixya.

I forgot my password to acess my router. I am adding a second laptop to be used with my pc.

Here is how to reset a new password since you cannot remember your old one.

On a computer connected to the linksys now.

Click the link below

On the page that comes up, it will ask for a username and password.

type in admin for the password, leave the username blank

You are inside the router..

Click on wireless, then right under it click on wireless security.

Where it says, PSK / Passphrase / Or Network key .. There is a text box to the right

In that text box is your password.. If it looks like **************

You will have to type in a new password, and click apply / save settings.

Then.. The router will restart..

You have now found out, or reset your wireless password.

***Note*** If you changed the password.. The current computer will also have to reconnect to the network, and enter the new password.

Let me know how this worked out for you. If my solution helped you, please rate this solution!
It doesn't cost anything and only takes a second, but it is greatly appreciated.

If you are using windows xp :

Go to Start>control panel> Network and internet> network connections > right click on wireless network > select 'view available wireless networks' and select your home network and click connect. If it asks for a password i guess u have it or if u dont have then go to Internet Explorerand and type in the address bar, it will ask for a username and a password, type admin as username and the same for password. it will take you to the lynksys page....then select wireless and click wireless security, it will show you the wireless password.......

If u have windows vista :

Click Start > go to 'connect to' > select the wireless network you want to connect to and the rest is the same as windows xp....

Hope this works out

Network key retreival

Is it possible that you never changed the default wireless key? If you didn't, the number in '[ ]' brackets printed on the bottom label is the wireless key.

If you've changed that from the default when setting up your wireless network, you'll most likely have to reset your router.

Of course, if you do a reset on your router, you will also have to re-enter your DSL account / password in the router

Can't remember the Network key for our home wireless setup

Try logging into the router by opening you web browser and in the address bar type , if you are prompted for a username and password enter them and click ok (username usually "admin" password usually "root" if they havn't been changed.
Go to the wireless tab and see if it is displayed in there, if it isnt then make a new one and save it but by doing this all other devices connected to it will need the new key putting in but at least you can now connect your new laptop and surf away.

hope this helps :o)
