Did your ISP Boingo supply you with a DSL or cable modem with a built-in wireless router? If only a DSL or cable modem is supplied and you wish to connect to the Internet by wireless then you need to connect a wireless router to this DSL or cable modem.
You can connect to the Internet using a LAN cable from your laptop to the DSL or cable modem. If your laptop as a built-in wireless card you can to the Internet via the wireless router. If you laptop does not have a built-in wireless card then you can install a PCMCIA wireless card into the card slot of your laptop to the Internet via a wireless connection.
Install drivers for ethernet card or buy a usb to ethernet adapter. That will get you on the net so you can install your other drivers via thinkvantage installer. Or you can just cruise the net with the usb to ethernet adapter itself.
first of all you need to check with your internet provider to see what modem you can use. a wirless 802.11g card (the farthest range) if your provider has a wirless modem i would get it from them. and a wirless modem/router. i use bellsouth wirless dsl and bought the equipment from them. if you have a wirless modem/ router already then you just need the card and configure it.
If your computer finds a wireless connection in your house, and still won't connect, you probably need to enter the WPA or WEP codes to get through.
Check with your modem or router instructions for finding this code.
If you're just trying to connect on the fly, chances are most wireless points are secured, so if you don't have their access codes, you won't be able to connect.
And, of course, check to make sure your wireless function is even working. I had a laptop that said the port was fine, and I couldn't get it to connect. The wireless antenna inside the computer was bad, and too expensive to fix - so you'll need a wireless PCMCIA network card.
There are several types of wireless modems available.
A PCMCIA wireless card that inserts into the laptop's PCMCIA slot.
A stand alone wireless modem that connects into the LAN port (10BaseT connector) with a network cable or a USB cable to the computer's USB port.
and
A USB wireless device (similar in size as a USB memory stick)that connects into the computer's USB port.
Any type of PCMCIA network card should work okay. Go down to Staples, Best Buy or Office Depot and find a decent PCMCIA network card. You should be able to find one for under $50
A little confusing this, it would not say 'Network cable unplugged'
if windows was refering to your D-link wireless connection(It's wireless)
The cable unplugged should be refering to your Wired Ethernet card, so there must be no cable connected at one or other end.
You don't mention anything about what the wireless card is trying to connect to(eg Wireless modem/router or another wireless PC).
Maybe your pc is getting confused as to whether you wish to connect wirelessly or wired, as it can only work through one IP Address at a time.
i could be wrong, but you probably thought that they were working but only one was, you really need to explain why you are using both wired and wireless and what is connected to what,
Please reply and hopefully it'll get sorted
You can have comcast allow you to log in using the new firmware at 192.168.0.1. You will need the user name and password from them. This will alow you into the firmware so you can change settings, including the PCMCIA card.
