Question about Canon PowerShot A540 Digital Camera

1 Answer

Battery low light

Even when I place new batteries (Energizer rechargeable at last try), the camera tells me the batteries need to be replaced. Can this be fixed? Thanks.

The low battery light is on even with new batteries. The flash won't charge whatsoever. This is my last Canon camera... The first one gave me the black screen problem and I decided to insist on another one... big mistake I guess

Thanks. Figures.... my serial number starts with 25.... not on the recall list. I called Canon and got no help even though my spring looks exactly like the defective one showed on their website.

Thanks for the suggestion. Tried it but couldn't get it to work.

Some of The Canon Powershot A530 and A540 cameras are subject to an advisory recall. Seems that a small spring on the battery compartment door can short out the batteries. Suspect this of yours, in that you mention that your batteries aren't lasting long. If your camera is on the list, Canon should fix this for you for free, including free shipping both ways. This is regardless of your camera's warranty status. Please check the following link for more info:

Well if they won't help, it should be a simple thing to correct. Merely find a way to prevent the metal of the spring coming in contact with the batteries when the door closes (tape a small piece of paper over the exposed screen, put some glue over the spring, etc...).

Taking a closer look at the picture, you instead would want to insulate the spring from coming in contact with the metal battery contact plate. If metal to metal contact would occur between the spring and the plate, then this would effectively short the batteries. Again, a simple fix. Put a piece of taped paper between the spring and the battery contact plate.

I put new batteries into the camera but it continually tells me "low battery". What's wrong??? Do I need a specific brand or type of battery?

Yes, you are correct.

Digital camera need a high drain battery like NIMH or ALKALINE type, and don't a multi purpose ( standard battery).

My favorite battery is Energizer 2500 mAH ( recharged type).

Please check the battery you are using right now and replace it as guided above. If there is no internal problem on your digital camera, this recommend batteries will working just fine.

Just bought a second hand Canon Powershot SX100 IS.

Try cleaning the battery contacts in the camera first with a pencil eraser and then with a cotton swab lightly dampened with rubbing alcohol.

Hi,
For the best results, I recommend you to use Canon rechargeable (NiMH) batteries. Rechargeable batteries provide the best performance and are the most economical choice.
Else......
AA alkaline batteries such as those from Energizer or Duracell will provide the best performance for non-rechargeable batteries.

Flashes low battery with only a few shots. Battery is new. Also what brand of rechargable batteries do you suggest?

cameras eat batteries fast. the best cameras have rechargable battery packs.

i'd use energizer or duracell. try to stay away from alkiline rechargables as they wear out fast. try Nickle Medal Hydrate Batteries (NiMH).

Kodak Easy Share z712 IS not detecting charged battery

I have the exact same camera almost a year too. It is a total "swinka" on batteries. About 10-15 shots on super ni-cads, and quits without warning.

A pair of Energizer 7X gave me near 500 shots. Much cheaper but still ...

So 4 months ago I bought a charger and 2 rechargeables. Charge one while using the other one.
I may get 70-90 shots per charge on these lithium-ion rechargeable batteries, without flash.

Testing the batteries without a load doesn't really tell you anything.
What's the reading? Should be well over 4 volts when fully charged. Mine show 4.2V

It says battery exausted even with new batteries

I beleive your batteries are of incorrect type or you need to set the type of the battery through menu. My favorite batteries are from Wal-mart: Energizer rechargeable Ni-Mh 2450mAh, (15 min recharging time) they fit any type of camera without setting the battery type through menu. Some incorrect type of batteries often damage the CCD. Ni-Mh Energizer never damages the CCD (black screen), while regular (non-rechargeable) Energizers may damage CCD in Sony S700 or similar cameras.

Battery low all the time

Try Eneloop batteries from Sanyo. They have the higher voltage needed. AND that voltage doesn't sag under the initial startup load.

NEW Batts but keep getting low batt indicator and....

Sorry, no solution. Same problem here. I am very unhappy because initially it took great pictures. The first one I tried only worked a couple of days and I returned to store and they replaced. Second worked a couple of months and now immediately draws down power and won't work on new batteries. I was told to use NH-10 batteries (rechargeable). I did this from the beginning. Still won't hold charge.
