Question about Creative Labs ZEN Vision:M Digital Media Player

I have a Zen Vision M: It will not charge....

I brought a it from a friend who brought it 2 years ago and NEVER used it it was sealed in box and all. It works fine while plugged into the wall or USB port but will not power up at all if not plugged in. He has no warrenty and does not remember where it was brought. Any suggestions???

Creative Zen won't charge or be regonized by my computer.


I have a Zen Vision: M and often have the same problem if it is completely discharged and not used for a couple of weeks.
When I plug it into my laptop I get a message saying 'This USB device has malfunctioned and is not recognized" (or something like that) and the unit will not power on. However, if I leave it attached for about an hour it eventually comes to life.

Do you have a wall charger, or do you only charge bu USB from your PC?

My advice would be:
- Attach it via USB to your PC
- Leave is for 1-2 hours and (hopefully) is should come back to life.

If not, try a different USB cable - I used to use the standard USB cable that came with my Zen Vision: M to charge (and sync) with my PC, but recently my PC does not recognize the device when using this, so I switched to a different USB cable (the one that came with my Sony Ericsson phone) and now it works first time, every time.

Really i don't know what the problem is. the creative doesn't charge and when it charges don't do anything


the player seems to need longer charging:
1. while player switched OFF: let it load on ac-adapter or USB-connection**** for about 1 hour, until the screen lights up.
2. still while player switched OFF: let it load another 2 to 3 hours
to get it fully charged.

**** notice: when using USB for charging:
1. Install the application software (from CD or Creative-download)
2. Preferred is a USB-connection at the backside of the computer
3. When more USB-connections are used, have the others disconnected: trying not to overload the USB-port power-consumption.

Creative zen won't turn on


had same prob to the T...found this post and it fixed it...it's the computer not the zen...once I did the two steps my zen started charging and turned on...go figure...the flashing blue light doesn't mean it is charging.

If you have windows set to do automatic updates, you most likely had a windows update installed that caused this conflict with Win Media Player 11. No fix has been posted by Microsoft yet, so the only workaround is to Uninstall/Rollback Windows Media Player 11. Goto <Control Panel<Add/Remove Programs and remove Windows Media Player 11. Follow prompts, restart computer when prompted to. Also uninstall Windows Media Player 11 Runtime application following same procedure above.
This will roll your Windows Media Player back to version 10 or 9, whichever you had installed prior to version 11. You will need to re-configure Windows Media Player again.

Your Zen should now be recognized by WMP and Creative software. You probably need to upgrade your firmware at this point, follow the instructions on upgrading your firmware, and you should be good to go.

This is a windows problem, not a creative problem. Dont blame Creative for the screwed up hotfixes that Microsoft puts out on a regular basi

If charging by USB is not charging your player enough to even be able to power up, then you're going to have to get hold of an AC wall charger that plugs into the ZVM's round DC-IN jack (on the sync adapter). PSP chargers work perfectly, if you have one. Let it charge for a few hours this way, then post back.

You should get support no matter where you bought your player. The Serial Number on the back of the player allows Creative to trace the player. I bought a Zen Vision M from Amazon in the US and had it shipped to an address in the US. A friend collected it for me and brought it home to me in Ireland. The Hard Disc failed after about 45 days and I emailed Creative Labs Europe and they set up an RMA, I shipped the player to them and they sent me a brand new player.
