Question about Computers & Internet
I have compaq laptop 2004 model.
Windows crashed 2 times in last 1 year and I was able to reinstall from window CD.
Now it is the 3rd time it crashed and my repeated attempts install window is not successful/ not fully installed??
Following messages comes up on Booting:
Disk errror occured
presess Ctl. Alt. Ent to restart
Some times, very slowly it comes up to Windows Log scree with scroling bar in the middle and then fails to come to Log Screen?
or It simply goes of saying window was sshut down to prevent further damage?
It wonly scans up to 25 -50%
Says unreadable sector on so many lines repeatedly ??
Then I have to Switch it of.
I got cheked local tech people and they are not able to figure out??
They say Hard Drive needs to be replaced? [ Hitachi is the present drive 40 GB]
Is it true?
If so which Barand I should and what would be cost I would be looking for?
I shall be highly grateful on your kind help here.

To recover your data try to start the computer in safe mode.
If this doesn't work try to mount your hard disk on another computer.
Restart the computer and after Bios loads up and press F8.
Then select Safe Mode and press Enter.
Run a virus scan, assuming that you have an Antivirus program installed.
You must have a good antivirus program .
Have you recently installed a new program and/or device?
You should uninstall it from Safe mode if so.
Have you used the System Restore option?
then try it.It may solve your problem.
or else try this
Take everything out- RAM, video card, controller card, and all the other adapters.
Disconnect the cables from the drives.
Turn on the system.
A series of beeps from the board should be the result.
If there are no beeps:
Make sure that the speaker is connected.
If the speaker wires are attached, then the motherboard or the CPU are the cause of the problem or it could be a short.
