Re: processor

Your amd cpu is ok and your two gigs of ram is ok. but to play direct x 10 you need visa operating system and a vidio card that supports direct x 10. crisis ohh ya.

Last year both my sons bought an eMachine, EL1300, desktop PC. I am looking at upgrading the processor, the Motherboards are both WMCP61M's. I was wondering if I could replace the existing AMD Athlon...

I would suggest you not to go for a processor upgrade, if you want to play games. You should consider upgrading your graphics Card(GPU). The processor that you mentioned above is enough for playing High-end games when combined with a good graphics Card. Upgrading your processor will boost very little game performance. But when you will upgrade your graphics Card. You will notice great boost in game performance and more new games will be supported. Two major manufacturer of Graphics Card are NVIDIA and ATi. You can opt any one of them. Nvidia GPUs are considered as a Good Performer. But also ATi is known for its long lasting life. Both the manufacturers produces a long list of models. Opt for the one that suits your Budget and the performance.
Hope this will help for sure.....

Overheating desktop

Hi..It could be your processor is overheating. The cpu may be perfectly fine for gaming but it may need a bigger heatsink and fan or needs to have the dust bunnies removed.

Gaming processor.

No lie, the best and cheapest you will find for gaming, and for overclocking is the AMD Athlon 64 X2 2.6Ghz "Black Edition" It is a dual core, AM2 socket, and has unlocked multipliers you can access through your bios, which is perfect for a newbie to mess around with overclocking. Go to and search for it, they did a big article all about overclocking it which will explain why its so great. Best thing is its 90 bucks on , just plan to buy a fan and some thermal grease, wont run you much more. Good luck and happy overclocking.
