Question about HP Photosmart C6100 All-In-One Printer

Black vertical strip showing on copied and scanned documents

I recently installed a brand new HP Photosmart C6100 All-In-One and it's printing okay, but with photocopies and scanned docments there is a problem.

A black vertical strip about 1.5cm wide runs down the document from top to bottom.

I've reinstalled twice but keep experiencing the same problem. I've also installed on another PC but problem is still there.

I'm thinking that it must be something to do with the copier/scanner sensor.

Please advise if there is anything I can do or should I contact the vendor support for assistance.

Thank you.

Re: Black vertical strip showing on copied and scanned...

Sometimes this is caused simply by a bit of dirt or dust on a part of the scanner's lens. Since the page is fed through a horizontal "strip" style scanner, something blocking the light on a little piece of it will cause a long black strip all the way down the page.

Here's a guide showing you how to go about cleaning it:

Remember to use a soft, non abrasive lint free cloth! Like a glasses cleaning cloth or a camera/binoculars lens cloth. Last thing you want to do is scratch the glass :P.

In copy mode I am getting a back strip along the left hand side of the copy. The strip also shows up in the preview. Strip used to be half inch thick and is now an inch thick.

Is any part of the image missing under this black strip, or is it just margin from the side of the document to the end of the glass?
If nothing's missing, then probably you set a larger original size in the settings somewhere.
Try a sheet of white paper the size of the glass, put on top of the (smaller) copied picture or document; when scanning it is not a big deal, you can always choose the area to be scanned, right?
If however part of the document is missing, this can mean that the photosensitive element is faulty and doesn't read a couple hundred pixels on that side and the device needs repair.

HP PHOTOSMART C6100 All in One series ran out of yellow and for the first time since we bought it it did not give us the option to print in black only. Message says Ink System Failure...cannot print fax...

I called HP for troubleshooting assistance. My printer HP All- in-One is only 2 years old. They were very nice to run through a series of steps with me...only to tell me that "It is broken" and I will need to buy a new one. So that's my solution for today....Which leads me to the next question...Do I get another HP or something else??

Black vertical lines on faxes sent using auto document feeder

If you lift up the lid on your scanning device you will notice a glass strip about 1 inch thick and then the large area of glass used for flatbed scanning. The 1 inch strip is used for ADF scanning. Because your papper is moving across the glass strip, any dot, smudge or scratch will affect your scanning and cause verticial lines down the page. Sometimes the dot is not visible to the eye. Get some glass cleaner that has alcohol in it and thoroughly clean the glass strip and it should solve your problem. If it turns out to be a scratch on the glass then cleaning won't help.

Scanned Items or Copies all print in Solid Black

I assume that you mean color images are being produced in black and white. If that's the case, there's a document on the HP web site that shows you what to look for and provides solutions:

Color Image Prints in Black and White

Good luck.

Cannot print with wirelessly networked printer

if printing from 2 other computer works fine, will i think its not an issue of IP address which changes somehow. but anyways, try to check if you still have other printer drivers under "PRINTERS" (see control panel). it should say HP Photosmart c6100 series. If you also have there a printer icon that says HP Photosmart c6100 series Copy1, try using it (right click on that icon and choose Set as Default Printer). If you only have HP Photosmart c6100 series under PRINTERS, try to right click, then choose properties. When Properties box is open, click on PORTS tab. then click on configure ports below. Try to type in the IP address of the printer under "Printer Name or Host name or IP address". make sure that you already printed network configuration page to get the exact ip address of the printer, Dont know how to print? do this.

1. press setup, then scroll down and look for Network.
2. press okay on network, it will give you the first option "VIew network settings".
3. press okay on it, and it will give you the first option "Print network configuration page."
4. choose that and press okay. it will print the network config page. from this document, you will be able to see the IP address of the printer.

Please let me know if the issue is still not resolve so that i can go ahead and give you another possible solution.

Thank you so much.
