Tv has very low hour use in my bedroom (120 hrs.). Went to turn on and I had sound and no picture or menu display. Tried doing what Vizio says to do on there site unlug for 3 minutes to reset with no results. looked for blown fuse and they are still white. from what I have read on the forums it could be a bad power supply. Is there someting else I need to look at or should I just try changing out the power supply. Production date is October 2006 and like I say very low hours. Thanks for any help
My VIZIO P42HDTV10A had sound but no picture. I checked the fuses with a continuity tester and found one of the fuses on the board that controls the picture was bad. With a little luck this will solve the problem, and save me a $400 repair with about an hour of my time and $3.00 spent at radio shack. The tester did cost me $19.00. So all together a $25 solution.

I had the same problem after having a Vizio for 2 and a half years. I
left the room for a minute, i came back and the screen went black.
There was still power to the unit and you could see that the back light
was working, just no picture, no sound, and you couldn't use any of the
buttons. The only way to turn it off was to unplug it. It would then
start up, with the Vizio logo going from orange to white, and then do
the same thing all over, no pic or sound.
HOW I FIXED MINE:Look through the back vents for a white light to make
sure the backlight still works. I ordered a new "main PCB" from
(you can also use searspartsdirect.com). This is the circuit board with
all of the inputs on it (hdmi, cable, etc.) I opened it up,
disconnected the old one, put in a new one and now it works fine. I
both serial numbers on the board to search for it online. It cost me
$144 to do it, but that's better than $450 for a new TV. My tv is the
vx32l hdtv10a. I hope that helps.
For me the part number was either (depending on the vendor) : 0171 2272
2174 or it was 3632 0212 0150. Check your circuit and see if any of
those numbers match up.
Do you have back light when turning on the TV? if you do then just replace the main board should resolve the problem. if you do not have back light, you will need to replace the inverter board(s) depending on your model. The inverter board(s) is located on the left side of the TV facing back of TV. you may have two inverter boards depending on your model. the other is located on the right side of the TV. Both mount vertically.
If backlight went out then sound should still work. Are there any indicator lights to show power is coming on anymore? Try unplugging for 30 seconds, hit power button a few times, then plug back in and try to turn on. This drains any capacitors of power to attempt to reset (basically clearing the TV's throat).
Can also try something on a different input. If current input is composite, S-video, or component, try using DVI or HDMI connection as this uses a different board in the TV. If that fixes it, then at least you can try to replace one board instead of entire tv. :)
