Rather than hitting the factory reset, you need to reset the lamp hours. With the power on, press and hold the brightness up and brightness down keys on the projector keypad at the same time for 10 full seconds. Verify the hours were reset by going to "About" in the main menu.

Black and white specks from InFocus X1 projector

if you can get a menu when you press the menu button, reset the settings to factory default. if you don't get a menu, the color wheel or the dmd chip is bad. either way, you'll have to replace the entire optical engine. and unfortunately, infocus no longer has any more in stock.

Projects in black and white

It's probably the color-wheel problem. Maybe the color-wheel stucked because of dust and/or color-wheel sensor is covered with dust.

The simple way to check this, without reinstalling drivers or so, you just tap menu button on remote. If you will see only black-white user interface it is definitly color-wheel.

Good luck.

Panasonic PT-L557U Bulb Life

lamp hours can only be displayed by connecting two test points in side the projector. in normal operation, a message will be displayed on the screen when the lamp hours = 1090. when the lamp reaches 1100 hours, the projector will shut itself off. when you do replace the lamp, be sure to reset the lamp time in the setup menu (this is covered in your manual).
